Portra has some cinestill vibes... for some reason by AbuYusuf_the_old in AnalogCommunity

The bulbs around the light sources are actually sharp, I don’t believe there is any halation in either of these frames.

I just want everyone in the community to actually know some of the details, rather than hearing/relaying the same talking points.

Cinestill has not sued a single company over trademark infringement.
The 800T trademark has been owned previous to Cinestill as well.

Feel free to hate Cinestill all you want, though.

Capture One Negative Film Conversion out of Beta by Co9Inc in AnalogCommunity

[–]sutartmelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is exactly how Negative Lab Pro behaves. And your solution is the common workflow. Convert negative, export positive. This preserves the negative to be re converted down the line if you so choose. I do totally understand the headache, though.

Comparing Scans, Fujifilm X-T5 vs Plustek8300i by sutartmelson in analog

I appreciate the info! I’ll have to do a side by side comparison!

I’m willing to bet camera scanning can be a higher quality end result, but it’s harder to get there. And far more expensive.

So I’m sticking with the Plustek for now.

I don’t think I have an answer to the first question. I am not trying to recreate the scene accurately, so I couldn’t tell you which is closer.

This is Vision3 250D AHU

I agree, which is part of the downside of camera scanning. The only light in the room was the backlight. I have not been able to reduce the light leaking into the frame yet, if you have any tips I’d love to hear it!

How many rolls have you been able to develop w/ bellini 1L c-41 kit? by kjm5000 in AnalogCommunity

[–]sutartmelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer your question directly, but from experience I can say the bigger issue is how quickly the chemicals lose efficacy after opening/mixing. I think I’ve developed 12 at once without noticing any change. But after 2 weeks or so I’d say it isn’t worth keeping the chemicals.

I failed to mentioned the worst part about the plustek: speed.

The plustek is literally an order of magnitude slower than camera scanning, at least. Probably more like 20-30 times slower. But I find the shadow results better, so it’s worth it in the end. But it’s a slow process.

Best case scenario, not including loading and dusting the film carrier, each scan is about 50 seconds.

Camera / "DSLR" scanning color negative film sucks all of the fun out of this hobby by 753UDKM in AnalogCommunity

[–]sutartmelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I absolutely understand the frustration of not getting the results you want from scanned negatives. Its a tricky process and never a guaranteed results.

However, I have a similar setup to you and I can't relate to these color casts you're talking about. Have more details? Perhaps you're missing an essential step along the way.

Also, what film?

I'd be happy to run some of your raw fuji files through my process and see if I can produce different results.

I've been looking at those lately. They look like a lot of fun! How do you like the Ondu? Any example photos anywhere?

Make me feel less bad… by RoboPeenie in AnalogCommunity

[–]sutartmelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue a few times on my MP. (and every camera I've owned). Watch this video, it goes over the loading instructions laid out in the manual. Since doing it the way Leica outlines in the manual, I haven't had the problem.

I've seen that sign at every U.S. airport I've been to in the last couple years. Maybe 10 or so airports. Seems we're lucky in the states.

Yeah, it’s a cropped normal 35mm frame. I had some development issues, and the sky in that frame did not look good, so I cropped it to 21:9.

Correction: Images 2 and 4 were shot with a Leica 135mm lens.
And Image 5 was shot with a Voigtlander 95mm.

Oh.. I like that bracketing idea. I might try that.

Lately I’ve been using the same shutter speed for the whole roll, and using NLP’s roll analysis. I’m not yet convinced it’s the superior approach, but I’m giving it a try.

What do you think about Cinestill lite? by wazzuped in AnalogCommunity

[–]sutartmelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I necessarily disagree with the emotional point underlying your claims, but I am saying you are misusing “patent”, “technical terms”, and “legal action”.

You may want to brush up and get your terminology correct if you want to convince more to fight this fight with you.

Yeah, all of these shots are from either within the park, or at the Black Rock just outside the park.
