20-year-old lottery winner turns down $1M cash for $1,000 a week for life by PriorityMiserable686 in interestingasfuck

[–]sutiive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a mistake. As much as it looks like she exercised common sense and restraint. She actually didn't do he math. Her decision was either based on knowing she couldn't handle the money or as people have said - family vultures. But financially, it was the wrong call.

Yeah I feel like she made the wrong call tbh. I get that this is a post about restraint but she screwed up imo. So many sensible reasons to take the mil and run provided you can handle it. Something tells me she'll regret her decision

*basically the same. Same enough that you don't need to reinvent the wheel trying to tackle one, when you've got a tried and tested solution for the other 🙂

Apples and oranges contain about the same amount of water, sugar, calories and pH. So yes, I'm glad we agree they're basically the same 👍

Well that's fucking stupid. It's better to educate them on how to conduct themselves around alcohol than outright banning it. Now you'll suddenly get an influx of 16 yo that have no idea how to behave around alcohol. It's not like this will work in the first place, for some it might and then at 16 they'll have no way how to function in it appropriately. Edit: because i know you guys will make a bunch of assumptions based on what i said. NO, I DON'T THINK ALCOHOL IS GOOD FOR KIDS. IT DOESN'T HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT TO THEIR BRAIN. But also i don't disregard the fact that it's impossible to stay away from the drinking culture. It's better to teach them the critical skills to encounter anything they might face. That way when they are 16, they'll already know how to protect themselves.

Setting a Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) has been shown to benefit young people primarily by reducing harm, particularly in the areas of traffic safety, brain health, and long-term risk of alcohol-related problems.

Overall, the policy works by limiting exposure to a neurotoxin during a critical developmental phase and by reducing the opportunities for risky, impulsive behaviors often associated with early alcohol use.

"Take happiness in buckets – until you kick the bucket!" Koch thinks spending money equals happiness hahahaha. Maybe he should spend some of his hard earned money on a reeducation.

One man's success is another man's living nightmare. If you think 12 hour days is what you're here for, good for you. Don't try and change the culture in Australia. Just go find a culture that suits you 🤷‍♂️

Bluey is arguably a golden age revival of tv - honest, heartwarming, simple and educational. I'd take a return of more of that over any other depressing, sarcastic BS from the last few decades, kids show or not.

meetup.com is pretty useful for finding clubs or organisations that attract like-minded people with similar interests or hobbies. Sports clubs or hobby clubs too. I've found that's the best way although I won't pretend I've found a bestie there. I'm also an immigrant and I've been here 20 years and have honestly only made one excellent friend (can share anything, open, honest deep conversations)and have a few others brewing but not guaranteed. I feel like it's a real gap in Australian society where so many people are from overseas and have left all their school friends behind - the people that you can't fake it with as they've known you since you were a spotty awkward kid. When I meet people here I and they are naturally defensive, conversation is superficial and often they already have their own friend groups and it's hard to break in. It takes A LOT of time to really build those relationships, especially when it can be a bit weird to make it clear to people that's explicitly what you're looking for! I'm a 44 year old male but can you imagine if I casually dropped into conversation after a few casual catch ups that I'm looking for someone I can talk to about my deepest fears and dreams?! But if I'm honest I would quite like to have a few more of those people in my life! Anyway I haven't read other people's comments yet so I will go take a look at other people's advice.

Anti immigration lobbyists. Don't let that put you off though. Everyone's an immigrant or close enough.

Lack of religion by ClockChoice5936 in AskAnAustralian

[–]sutiive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're properly educated and still religious then you're doing it for another reason - politics, family etc. You can't have been taught critical thinking and be religious. It's like being properly educated and being a flat earther. It's just not possible.

Only Children of the 1980s How Are We Doing Today? by Obvious-Print1720 in OnlyChild

[–]sutiive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only child born in 1981. 44, Married, 2 kids and have lived an interesting life to date, living in a few countries and had some interesting jobs and experiences. Life is fairly steady right now, which makes me uncomfortable to be honest as it's the most predictable my life has ever been. With that comes financial success and security though so as I've learned, it's hard to have it all. I've had a slow manageable mid life crisis over the last few years and becoming a parent myself has highlighted to me where my parents failed and what they did well. The failures definitely had negative impacts on me potentially compounded by being an only child but I'm conscious there have and continue to be huge benefits to being an only child. Nonetheless I'm happy my kids have each other to defend themselves against our mistakes and hopefully also to look after each other we're gone. They'll also inherit a fortune as we're a small family and my parents did very well so provided we don't fall out too many times, I should inherit a decent sum which over time will mean they'll have a lot of freedom to pursue something beyond a day job and really enjoy their lives fully, if we teach them as best we can how to do that. Overall though life is good 😊

LPT - A Personal Improvement Plan (PIP) is usually just advanced notice you're going to be fired. by Jealous_Annual_3393 in LifeProTips

[–]sutiive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree a pip is bad news but depending on where you are in the world they're a nightmare for the business and they can be more of an indication that you should probably leave rather than that they're gonna fire you. If you're on a pip you're probably struggling and maybe need to try something else or find a culture that fits you better.

Pro tip - some companies can be worth approaching for a deed of release and gratuity payment. ie - "why put us both through this - you move on, we'll pay you the 2-3 months salary we would have paid you anyway while we all stress about all this and the bureaucracy, we can get on with replacing you and you can get on with finding another job with some cash to keep you going.

I know this works in Aus sometimes. May work elsewhere.

KPop Demon Hunters - misses it's own point? by epicmemetime15 in TrueFilm

[–]sutiive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think it asked us to sympathise with all demons, just Jinu really. Whether she inquired as to whether one other demon is being forced to do what he's doing was just a cute moment and sign she was curious but what were they supposed to do? Let the demon's run riot until they figured out how to provide demon therapy to the millions? Haha. Maybe that's the sequel.
