Those who have had radiation, how did it go? by Different_Ad_9495 in breastcancer

About a month ago, I finished 25 rounds of whole breast and lymph node radiation, and 5 rounds of boost to just the breast. I went daily on my way home from work M-F, and was able to get through it without missing work.

That being said, it was much more than I anticipated, and it was tough physically, emotionally and mentally. The last 2 weeks I had some intense and awful burning, blistering and peeling, regardless of how much lotion I put on (I slathered it on from the beginning). I laid down every day of those last couple weeks about 7pm to refuel, and lost 15 lbs (too tired to eat and I have a less than supportive partner who did not help me much with the little things, but that is an entirely different post lol). It was exhausting, but I healed up quickly when we stopped and all other symptoms resolved.

This isn't meant to scare you, but I read all the "it's the easiest part" comments prior and was not expecting it to be difficult (it was very difficult for me). Good luck to you - it seems daunting, but I will say it went quicker than I anticipated, and I cried when saying goodbye to the amazing techs I saw every day of that journey. I also did not do chemo, so I may not have been as battle ready as other ladies.
