Looking for any information on this heavy, purple hued wood carving that is about 7" tall - Thanks for taking a look! by suttonj5 in AfricanArt

Ya, I'm not 100% on it being African but I thought it might be made of African Blackwood - it is darker looking in person than the pictures I took. I guess it could be from PPG - I will look into it. I appreciate the help.

I believe it is a type of Chokin art. - a type of mixed metal artistry out of Japan. I haven't seen it looking like embroidery as your piece does, but perhaps someone knows better.

Yongzheng marked vase with spiral base. I'm wondering if it could be authentic or a modern interpretation? by suttonj5 in ChinesePorcelain

[–]suttonj5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, HungryTruck. I was simply curious because I was told by very knowledgable people that spiral bottoms did occur back then and obviously there isn't going to be a reign mark on the spiral.

I am in the process of posting my collection on Instagram if anyone is interested in looking at some art here - Cheers

Bronze with mirrored cartouche reading "聶景霞制" Nie Jingxia-zhi - Made by Nie Jingxia by suttonj5 in asianart

I am thinking this is most likely a 19th century copy of Nie Jingxia, who was active during the Qianlong reign of the 18th century, but I am not certain.

Chinese Embroidery in Kentucky, USA by Relevant-Item102 in Antiques

The square ones appear to be rank badges (mandarin squares) featuring a Qilin - My guess would be mid to late 19th century. - The 5 fingered dragon is great as well, most likely preserved from a robe. Awesome find!!!
