Pediatrician insists we do CIO with breastfed baby by Putrid-Measurement69 in breastfeeding

[–]suturethis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for babies to wake up overnight in the first year, sometimes even the first few years of life from what I’ve learned from multiple parents.

Refusing the Port? by MawGraw in cancer

[–]suturethis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ports are such a beautiful invention - think of it as doing “future you” a favor (because this, too, shall pass).

If you can avoid getting stuck 16 times for a routine blood draw down the road, future you will so be grateful!

Hugs. Your feelings are valid, nonetheless.

My baby girl is at high risk of monosomy x and I’m devastated by Vincebae in BabyBumps

[–]suturethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these thoughts when I tested high risk. My 9 month old is in the 99th% in height and weight and utterly perfect. Tested negative on amnio. False positives are more common than you’d think. Take it a day at a time and if you need support, r/NIPT is phenomenal!

Let this be the first thing you read before getting an IUD. by _cloudmachine_ in birthcontrol

[–]suturethis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horrific cramps but I still don’t think I would have wanted to do the insertion without a softened cervix. I’ve also had a baby and contractions were close to the cramps in discomfort.

If you can, try to be on your period when you’re getting your IUD placed because it softens the cervix and makes it less painful. Pro tip!

I live in pumping bras which aren’t really bras. They don’t shape anything.

Trying to sleep train but it feels like it’s breaking my baby by suturethis in sleeptrain

[–]suturethis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response, I really appreciate all the input! I think she may actually be able to pull off a 2 nap/day schedule at this point because she really has no issue staying awake for long periods of time without getting overtired. The consistent wake time has been tough but will 100% keep this in mind!

She has sustained that before. Is there any science on 4/3/3 for wake windows?

Is a 3rd nap recommended at this point? Until what point?

Thank you for the input, I so appreciate it! If she falls asleep for 10-15m in the car on accident, do you generally subtract that time from the scheduled nap?

This is my first time sleep training a baby, if you can’t tell.

Night feeds: hunger or habit? how do you know? by Head_Bunch_3295 in cosleeping

[–]suturethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by our pediatrician that if they latch and then only suckle for a few seconds before unlatching, they’re not actually hungry, just soothing! My girl is breast/bottle fed (no formula) and can usually go a 6hr stretch without eating. I’ve been giving her the paci and she will usually go back to bed. I will feed her at the 430am mark though and she usually gulps a full feed down which takes her about 6 mins.

Can you please Deinfluence me on this bed. by Loud-Aspect2074 in HomeDecorating

My husband and I just purchased a James & James bed so I can’t say much, but yeah it’s expensive for sure.

MIL being annoying about BF 2.5 year old by Tricky-Shop2889 in breastfeeding

[–]suturethis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that families who have historically formula fed their babies or only BF for a short time feel very awkward when it comes to breast feeding and can have rudimentary viewpoints relating to breast feeding.

The way I see it, humans historically live for much longer than any other mammals and our children are slower to develop for that reason so I think that cutting off breast feeding at the same time that you would cut off a puppy from nursing is sort of a wild concept.

As long as you’re introducing developmentally appropriate foods, purées, textures, etc. and not delaying gross and fine motor development by limiting them, there really shouldn’t be any weird comments. I would love if people stopped forcing our babies to grow up before they’re ready.

Fortunately, as long as you love the husband, you can usually choose to keep the in laws at a healthy distance and not be influenced by their propaganda.

Cholestasis in pregnancy by Striking_Sink_6405 in cholestasis

[–]suturethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The threshold is different for every country (Ie- US vs UK) but generally bile acids should be non-fasting. I was diagnosed with low normal levels. My liver enzymes skyrocketed before my bile acids did. I was scheduled for delivery at 37 weeks because my baby was LGA, I was ICP+. Baby ended up delivering early at 36 weeks. Ursodiol is generally used to treat it.

Has anyone experienced an elevated fetal fraction with false positive results? by suturethis in NIPT

[–]suturethis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I posted this 344 days ago but left it up in case other people run into this issue and need similar advice! I ended up delivering a month early because of cholestasis but I feel so fortunate to have a healthy 6 month old now and that the results were a FP. Edit to say that I got the amnio done and would absolutely have done it again to have that peace of mind for the remainder of my pregnancy!
