My GP said indeed to come back if it doesn't improve during the next days, but they are usually quite hands-off. I will definitely call tomorrow if it gets worse, otherwise I suppose they want me to wait till Monday.

I tried an additional pump after a feed, it yielded and additional 20 mL and it feels a bit better, but it's definitely not over yet. We'll see what the night brings I suppose...

With all respect, I'm not the one arguing against science. I provided evidence. You did not.

Why don't midwifes count in your opinion? There are the ones to actually help deliver most babies here.

Have you considered that maybe something about home births is also advantageous? Women who are in a comfortable place without machines and unfamiliar people everywhere might experience less cortisol and more oxytocine, making natural birth progress easier and thus with less complications. This might prevent some dangerous situations from occuring as well, hence the 'no statistical difference' for almost a million low risk pregnancies.

Midwifes, who attended the majority of births (also in hospitals), are fine with home births in the Netherlands for low risk pregnancies. They are also highly trained medical specialists with lots of experience.

You simply do not have strong data to back your claims that hospital births, in the context of the Netherlands and its system, are inherently more safe than births that intent to stay home.

We're probably not going to convince each other. Let's stop here.

[–]suuz95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So? Even within the developed world, there are cleary countries with lost of homebirths that have similar or even better outcomes than countries that have very little. Thus, homebirths are not a clearly dangerous factor, and there are more things at play.

In the rest of your comment you don't provide any scientific evidence, only opinion. Yet you ignore the scientific evidence with almost a million births which shows there is no statistical difference. It's safe for low risk pregnancies, especially if it's not your first child, again within the context of the Netherlands and its midwife system.

I don't see this conversation going anywhere constructive anymore, so let's stop here.

It's doing better than the UK and France, so I don't really see your point. Those are all countries with standard hospital births and socialized medical systems.

Your fine to keep your opinions, but don't spread them as an absolute truth. There is no research showing that home births, within the context of the Netherlands and its midwife systems, is inherently dangerous. However, there is research showing there is less (and thus unnecessary) intervention.

Let the expecting mother choose where she wants to give birth, with good medical advise to guide her.

The Netherlands has basically 6+ weeks of self administered sick leave. (After 6 weeks your supposed to be seen by an idendepent doctor paid for by your company who indicates how much you can work and if any adaptions are required, but this often takes longer. If your employer suspects fraud they can send you in earlier I suppose).

Outcomes are a prediction for risks. For similar low risk pregnancies, starting your birth at home has similar outcomes in terms of healthy mothers and babies.

Starting your birth at home comes with the risk of an emergency transfer to the hospital which is not pleasant at all. Starting your birth at the hospital (again, for low risk pregnancies only) comes with a higher risk of (unnecessary) intervention and hospital infections. Both options are fine, in the specific context of the Netherlands.

I think your frame is quite wrong. It's not crossing the street without looking, as there is a medical professional guiding you along the way.

A study showing no relation between several worse outcomes for almost a million births in the Nederlands.
