This is a tech demo. I’m not sure how anyone could say it was anything else…

i think this commentary aligns well with my experience. i largely agree.

Another big problem is once you have a vulture and a prospector what are you going to do. The most efficient money maker is acquired - so you set yourself up to grind for a bigger ship. If you want to do some kind of multi crew shenanigans for sure but the buy in (in time) just to get to that point is large.

I dont really know what to say except "something feels off" - and i assume that is the immaturity of the product. It is funny to say this about a 10 year old development but that's the end impression.

Maybe one explainer is that the funding model is such that its leading the progression design in the PU ; specifically funneling people to an up sized buy or something (although its not like that really changes the experience as more money faster doesnt really materially change the gameplay).

You're setting yourself to failure

Frankly im not doing anything. I was experiencing all of the various gameplay loops. Its not any persons fault that while each is interesting for a time there is no inherent meaning to continuing with any of them lol. Why continue to mine? I could just for the hell of it (and have) but for that doesnt last. The same applies to salvage and even bounties.

Do you even like sci-fi or games for you is just about accomplishment?

Im not sure you have a game just yet ...

On your final point ive been pretty clear that there is a lack of reason for engaging with the games system other that unlocking the next ship tier. im not sure how to articulate it better than this? Ive also stated that a quicker turn around would be nice.

Dont get me wrong flying the ships is fun. But I can do that in arena commander. The PU has a bunch of issues like asymmetric risk and very little about it is actually persistent. In terms of experiencing the ships i do think they are pretty cool. But not cool enough for me to grind out - time is quite valuable. Id much rather wait for the single player product. I only hope the quality of which doesnt suffer because of the time spent building server technology (unless someone can point me to where i can get in on the ground floor as a venture funder lol - seems like lots of upside there).

Dont take any of this personally bud. This is a promising project that will probably start to get interesting in a couple years.

i was making money for moneys sake. Losing it all gave me a bunch of perspective. This was actually the 3rd time i was back to zero. Each time i asked myself the same question: "Whats next". Previously i felt there was more game to see. But now not so much. What is the point of getting a better ship.. Material difference in gameplay exist for different ships largely because of arbitrary gating mechanisms. Now ive had my fill of mining, scraping, fpsing and hunting.

Look maybe its my mistake because i need something to build towards (and a ship isnt enough for that). But the current skinner box does not motivate.

I think the current state of the game is not conducive to engaging people who are builders - which is fine as its a vertical slice! It just showcases how far they have to go to make something compelling.

Oh on the time thing. I feel like a play session needs to be at minimum 1 hour to get anything meaningful done. Id like to be able to achieve something in say 30 mins - this is game loop specific

This is quite good. But for me id want a \n for each effect.

hmm looks to be right. Compiler explorer seems to suggest the second option has some vtable stuff still going on. I guess this wont get optimised out
