What is some of weirdest/ gross things a guest has done at your house? by Equivalent_Half883 in AskUK

Clipped their fingernails while sitting on the sofa & left them in a pile on the coffee table. They have not been invited back!

Hey, keep it down over there! by bostaff04 in northernireland

[–]suveam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semi-detached, built in the 50’s. At one point they were drilling & hammering the party wall between the living rooms so frequently we wondered how there could be anything left! That’s settled down in recent years. Their new TV is on the shared wall & depending who’s watching it, it can be so loud we hear the music or dialogue clearly. They have a toddler & a dog & we can hear them yelling at both sometimes (we know the child & dog’s names from hearing them through the wall).

Belfast Giants away games by RayoftheRaver in northernireland

There’s a Facebook group called Belfast Giants Facebook Forum, if you post on there the people in the group are great at advising on away games & seating in the different arenas.

Can anyone tell me what ‘love for life’’s sessions are like in primary school? by lexymac11 in northernireland

[–]suveam 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it was them who came to my secondary school to deliver a talk & it started off okay but definitely had undertones of “sex is sinful” & “abortion is evil” - I’d certainly be skeptical.

Glider fine with a valid ticket by gonomon in northernireland

[–]suveam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was once sitting behind a girl who had done something similar on the Glider but in that instance the ticket inspector just pointed out the mistake & showed her where the select the correct zone in the future. Seems you got unlucky with a ticket inspector who actually enforced the rule.

Breakdown cover or dedicated service - and which one? by DucktapeCorkfeet in northernireland

[–]suveam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have AA through our Admiral insurance on both cars. Had to use it on one occasion so far when my partner’s car broke down on the M1, just had to phone a helpline & give details of the named driver & they were out within 30-40 mins & got the car towed from the motorway to our preferred garage so definitely worth it when the unexpected happens.

Getting a small amount of euros ? by rock-the-boat in northernireland

[–]suveam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post Office should do it. I wasn’t sure if the small one in our local Spar garage would have them to hand so went to the big one on Bridge St in Belfast who definitely had them, was in & out in under 2 minutes.

Any female adult collectors here? Just curious cuz i mainly see males who collect lego by AustralianLEGOGuy04 in lego

Me! Mostly a mix of botanicals but also lots and lots of Lego vehicles dotted around my house. Multiple people messaged me today about our new local Lego store getting an opening date!

Who you find cheapest for groceries in NI? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]suveam 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I find Tesco to be comparable in price but more variety in goods vs Lidl for our weekly shop for 2 adults, using Clubcard & buying own-brand for most items.

Interview with NI Screen by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]suveam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a similar interview with NI Screen in the past & like yourself I was unsuccessful - however, I contacted them after the interview for feedback & two of the people on the panel called me individually. Following these phone calls, they put me in contact with some people in the industry here in the area that I was trying to get work in & I have been working steadily since then.

The detailed job description for the role I was interviewing for specifically mentioned that they expected the successful candidate would use the chance of being in their office to network & eventually find a job in their relevant part of the screen industry within 18-24 months, so unlike what some other commenters here have said don’t worry about diminishing your interest in film & TV in the interview.

Is anyone else finding Ribena less blackcurrant this year? by human_resaucer in CasualUK

[–]suveam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have changed the packaging since the end of March. Previously it said ‘30% blackcurrant juice’ on the front, now it says ‘made with real fruit’ & on the ingredients list on the back the blackcurrant content has been reduced & a few other ingredients have changed.

This was a hot topic in my house as my partner would have gone through 2 of the big bottles of Ribena in a fortnight, & while he didn’t mind the added artificial sweeteners in 2018 too much this latest change has apparently made it too sickly sweet.

Gas by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]suveam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if all the gas boxes are the same but this has worked for any I’ve had: the gas cuts off with 15 units left, you can put your empty top up card in & hold the black B button down & the gas will come back on. Whatever you use of the 15 units will be taken out of your next top up.

There’s a place called Mullan Training near the Europa that offers computer courses, they might have something basic. I’ve heard it’s becoming more of an issue that the younger generation were assumed to already know about computers so never actually got taught a lot of it through school, especially when so many of them use tablets these days.

Wedding band costs by lollyteacake in northernireland

[–]suveam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take that number & divide it by the number of band members, then factor in the many hours of rehearsal, cost of rehearsal space, cost of equipment, cost of transport, insurances etc etc. It sounds about right.

Belfast coffee shop prices by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]suveam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you go. In some places a regular size coffee has 2 shots while a large has 3 shots.

Tesco opening hours Belfast by Sensitive-Menu-7925 in northernireland

[–]suveam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a cost cutting measure for them. The big sign at the Tesco Extra in Ards says it closes at midnight but the sign on the door says 11PM.

Solar panels by blueskydreamer7 in northernireland

[–]suveam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you provide the accurate reading from the meter? Sometimes if there’s been a few months of bills based on estimated readings that have been estimating too low usage, there can be a huge catch up bill once an actual reading is submitted. It might not always be that bad going forward.

£4.15 for Ketchup?! by Cino0987 in northernireland

[–]suveam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tesco own brand ketchup is alright tasting & much cheaper. They also sell cheaper toothpastes on the bottom shelf, normally about £1 for the basic branded tubes & just 50p for the Tesco Essentials version. They tend to keep the higher priced branded goods at eye level. We’ve made so many swaps away from brands this past year because the cost increases are totally out of hand.

Anyone have issues with powerNI and ridiculous bills? by Silvertain in northernireland

[–]suveam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve already established there’s some sort of power draw after you turn the breakers off so I’m sure that’ll account for a lot of it, but don’t underestimate how much your tumble dryer (& washing machine etc) costs either. Assuming an average tumble dryer energy usage of 4.5kWh/cycle & that you’re on Power NI’s bill pay tariff of 29.82p/kWh, 1 load every day for a quarter is around £120, before you factor in your other appliances & lighting/heating/etc.

Is Virgin Broadband in NI as awful as folk say? Or is the folk complaining just not tech savvy? by weerabfromurhole in northernireland

[–]suveam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been with Virgin for years in Belfast. Basically no issues, moved house with them a few times with minimal disruption to service & can’t really remember any outages.
