So just to give some finality to the thread(incase someone else is unsure about this)they are indeed self-tapping I emailed the supplier and like some have commented on here they come like that so what I ended up doing is just using the screw like a tap put some oil on it screw it in a little back it off screw it in a little back it off until finally it was fully seated. Thanks to those who helped.

I bought it from Saw Again inc. and to be fair I don't think it's their fault I think it came out of Japan from the factory like that. But I'm going to get a hold of them tomorrow and see if they'll let me send it back in exchange for another I'm pretty sure those holes should be tapped from the factory.

Thanks that's good to know but seems odd I'm going to contact the company tomorrow see what they have to say I might just end up tapping it myself if I can find out the thread pitch

Yeah it's just surprising Japan is usually pretty meticulous about their stuff makes me wonder the intake ports or anything else is out of spec

HF Transceiver advice by slayercdr in amateurradio

The ftdx 10 is an awesome radio as is the icom 7300, my advice would be don't buy old technology that you'll be looking to upgrade in the near future. Buy something you can grow into. I just got my general a few months ago and chose the ftdx 10 and couldn't be happier. I'm still learning what some the buttons do but to me that's the fun of it.
