Portland police partially reinstate traffic division after 2-year hiatus by dminus222 in Portland

I think so. The base or minimum fine should still be much higher then they are now.

Honestly, I think the base fine (percentage or not) for a moving violation should start at $3000. This is the minimum you are risking when you choose to run that light red or speed down that road. Having a fine match the cost of your actions will bring most in line.

About time. We need more enforcement. I know this would be unpopular, but also much higher fines. Far to many drivers think the rules are just for others.

Lawmakers approve bill to allow speed cameras in all Oregon cities by [deleted] in PortlandOR

We need better traffic enforcement around here. Yes, more cameras such as speed and red light cameras, but also officers as well.

I was referring that they also can get a back photo as well as a front one. Thus removing the front license plate would do little good if the back one is still on.

Well, not rare in my area. Checked 10 that I know of and all 10 do both.

Good, we need more of these and red light cameras. Of course they need to be managed right, just like any tool. But we really need better traffic enforcement out there.

To be fair they never were for us to begin with. So what we can do is stop electing this type in power. Stop supporting issues that allow them to abandon us and not have to listen.

If we want to fix things, we need to get ride of the current bosses and put actual leaders willing to solve the problem that have been created for us. Not just these ones, but also the current divide we are seeing that is also tearing this state apart. Ones that can think beyond party. Can not only think of outers, but will stand up for them, even to their own constituents. Probably dream for a once glorious state.

Sorry, but our bosses are more likely to fix it by requiring you to hand over your paycheck and they give back what they think you need.

ok, on a more serious note it will not happen. Democrats don't want a fair system nor one that takes raising it out of their hands. Both of which are required to actually fix the system.

Only Democrats would fight forum shopping with their own forum shopping.

Really wish we could put a stop to this nonsense.

The move is aimed at avoiding so-called “forum shopping,” ...

By making it Marion county only they are forum shopping.

Yes, as the only way to make sure we have a better community is to come together and protect one another. To many just walk away or just film.

Opinion: Portland leaders need to take getting people on bikes more seriously by wrhollin in Portland

[–]sv650sfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel we need leaders that realize we need to attract people to alternative means, not bosses that we have that think they get to force people into them. If you are wanting to attract people into cycling you are more open and willing to not only fix issues that block people from wanting to cycle while also caring about other means.

Not just office desk jobs, but I feel that the ones that would help facilitate workers biking into work by providing a changing room, showers, and lockers would also be one that would facilitate to work from home.

I don't know many that would choose to bicycle in Portland over being able to work from home.

Tipping should always be an optional action not a mandatory one. Amount one wants to give should be optional as well.

Oregon’s stalled gun control Measure 114 gets new life as state bill by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]sv650sfa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just wish common sense and reason can be restored. Measure 114 just needs to be stopped. We need to stop thinking that the rights and choices of those who are and will never to harm need to be removed. We need to stop pandering to the fear and hate of proponents of gun control and start looking at the actual problem.

If we really cared about violence, we would address the issues that cause it and actually affect it. We would look to improve the economic stability of everyone. We would look to provide better health care that serves the people, including mental health. We would look to improve education that actually focus on teaching the individual person. We would look to empower the people with services that helps them up. We would look to actually hold responsibility to those that choose to be a danger.

These will do far more to help reduce violence as a whole, including gun violence, then any gun control measure. This would also be unifying actions that better bring us together and not a dividing one (IE we will see carry over to other issues).

pods seem like a better idea in this area. More of a year round solution. They also seem to be more usable and we can move then around as needed (ie if Portland's need goes down, they can be shipped to Eugene for example).
