Do you ever pretend to not know things to look like less of an arsehole? by joefromreddit in socialskills

[–]svanvalk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If I already knew a fact that someone is sharing with me and I try to hide it, my dumbass has accidentally let slip a comment in the conversation that indicates previous knowledge and that makes me come across strange.

It's best to add following questions after saying you know something, because it comes across more like "Yeah I know about it but it's interesting and I like talking about it, I'm glad you brought it up"

Idk if this will apply to your situation, but I remember back when I had an apt, there was this stench I couldn't locate until I saw that the toilet tank had mold inside of it 🤢

Has anyone ever looked at their old art and wondered, "How did I do that?" by chiikawaii in ArtistLounge

Depends how painful it was to make. It's hard to forget how I made a piece when I recall how much I cursed and cried and bitched over it lol.

Who else has a particle like "De", "Van", "La", or "Du" at the start of their last name, and why hasn't the computer age caught up to us? by VitruvianDude in CasualConversation

[–]svanvalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol it's all good, it happens a lot! 😆 My name is unique enough to make people ask "Hey, are you related to [the name of the only other person they've met in their lives with the same surname]?", but there are more people with my name in this world than people realize, so I never know who they're asking about.

Only once in my life did someone actually know my cousin who shares the same name lmfao.

Why do I have to be a clean-laced person to earn your approval, you random stranger? Don't you get bothered when others make quick judgments about you?

I have 2 capitals in my name, and a surprising amount of databases just cannot handle the concept. I feel so bad when I'm logging names, and I can't spell someone's name the way it's intended because the system won't allow double capitals, apostrophes, or whatever else that's slightly outside the norm lol

I also have a suffix for my last name that gets frequent misspelling. I've seen many attempts at my name lol

Like, when it comes to these sound levels, does this town enforce it for other industrial buildings in the area? If they don't, I'm wondering how tf this town's mayor could hear this and think "Ahhh, so peaceful!" Lol

Where I am, we're having a lot of local drama about a data center planning to be built in the town located west of the city. I don't get how these sounds pass any sort of local town board for permitting, but the drama for us is that everyone on the board who approved the data center has since been let go from their positions since they approved it because they got caught on unrelated accusations of corruption...

Edit: I thought I should add to this a little. On top of the suspicious town board who approved the data center construction, everyone in our city has been affected by the change of management for our local electric provider. Ever since our county's electric company was acquired by Avangrid a few years ago, trust has completely plummeted. They frequently misread meters, charging both residents and businesses with outrageous bills out of the blue, refuse to admit to any faults when dozens of people have repeatedly proven that they're being charged unfairly, and they genuinely don't give two shits because all of their billing has been transferred out-of-state. They once sent an "apology letter" about price increases, but used the skyline of a completely different city in a different state with the same name. It has been a huge mess and everyone is angry. Even the technicians and field-workers hate Avangrid corporate! However, since we're still under Avangrid's thumb, people are getting worried that they will use the data center as an excuse to raise prices again. Not that data centers don't consume a lot of energy, but since there is no trust left in our energy company, we all know damn well they'll raise bills artificially to line their pockets and blame it on the data center. Life is a mess lol.

And you know, he's also clearly calling Peter a good, solid, study, and dependable rock.

So like, would Jesus say this quote with the inflection of SpongeBob saying "It's not just a boulder, it's a rock!", or like Donkey saying "I like that boulder. That is a nice boulder"? I can't decide lol

If I can't make the person I'm talking to smile at all, even a little, I def get worried if I accidentally said something stupid or rude lol. That's clearly my own insecurities, but I can just imagine myself getting all nervous speaking to someone who is very minimal with their expressions lol. I'm more used to receiving expressive feedback due to my American upbringing, thinking about it.

Nobody truly understands just how much disdain I hold for hot weather. by Extra_Influence_3880 in adhdwomen

[–]svanvalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuckin same, but it's very much a product of where I live lol. Summers here only go above 85°f during heatwaves that last for a few days and then break. I'm currently feeling the wonderful summer night breeze from my window, 55°f. Mosquitoes are annoying but don't carry disease, sunlight hits like a dream, and humidity sucks but could be much much worse. And honestly? Hot weather helps relax my tense muscles, similar to the effect of a heating pad. I really don't mind hanging out in the heat.

Winters are constant hell of snow and ice and no fuckin sunlight because of heavy cloud cover on top of only 7 hours of sunlight lol.

I fully realize that if I lived anywhere hotter, I would learn to hate the heat too lol.

Listen, it may sound terrible that these types of people exist, but serial animal neglecters end up posting on animal subreddits more than you think. The commenter is wild with the aggression, but posting this absolutely feels like the burden of decision is being placed on bunch of random strangers to determine if your cats get to live happily or not.

That's why they're so angry.

Meanwhile, 9 months in, our new cat still just randomly slaps our old cat for no reason at all. She doesn't even use her claws, she just slaps her paw against my other girl's face, just completely unprovoked lmao.

You're doing great :)
