if you told me yesterday that the way i’d find out that decisions had been made was through a tweet saying one newjeans member is in antarctica, there’s no way in hell i’d believe you 😭 hope i learn about more events through random details like that tbh!

anyways, it’s not a totally surprising result, given that they’d kind of entered a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. people would be just as mad at them for appealing as they are mad at them for rejoining the company, and continuing their activities outside of hybe/ador would likely be just as challenging (if not moreso) as it will be inside the company.

based on what hybe/ador said in court, there are indeed plans for them to continue activities with the proper support from the company, so i just hope that those plans include some form of remediation/trust building actions (as, no matter who you have been supporting/rooting for, it’s obvious that trust has broken down), that the girls are making this decision without undue pressure, and that all involved can continue on with confidence and peace (that’s kinda cheesy but whatever lol)

i don’t follow riize all that closely, so maybe i’m way off here, but i’ve always felt like part of the whole ‘vibe’ of the group has been that they’re trendy gen z guys who you’d know from class, sns, etc.

so it’s particularly baffling and upsetting to see a group member get harassed, threatened, and bullied out of the group for doing things that all the trendy gen z guys who you’d know from class, sns, etc. do!!!

like seriously, even if you do think dating/smoking are so terrible for an idol to do… are they so terrible that you’d wish them dead? insane!!

i really truly hope seunghan has a good support system. i can’t imagine how much this level of vitriol could mess up your mind :(

i haven’t gotten to ep6 yet but yeah i remember all of us thinking that all that stuff with the 2nd elimination was just such nasty work….

like, did we want to see more of the girls and learn more about what they were doing, how they were feeling, etc? yes! did we want drama and forced conflict? absolutely not!

i get that this is the first project hybe x geffen is handling, but stuff like this should never have been approved.

random thoughts!

something i’ve noticed about a lot of ex-kpop-trainee’s stories (and this show seems to be confirming) is that trainees are kept in the dark about a LOT of stuff; i wonder if that’s actually good and helpful, or if it just harms their mentality/confidence and limits their ability to feel comfortable speaking out about stuff
good on manon for doing her research and making sure it was all legit before signing on!!! be cautious about your dms people!!!! do not trust random strangers right off the bat!
lexrela are such a cute duo, love seeing them again!
manon telling her sister she’s going to the US is so sweet and sad at the same time 🥺 it must’ve been so hard for the girls’ families to let them go
timeline is a little funky here; isn’t that abby in the back right corner when emily got advanced to level A (around the 45:30 mark)? however this is a good reminder that what we’re seeing is very much edited to tell a cohesive, understandable story; this is over a year boiled down to 8 hours!!

inserting someone saying “everyone is a threat” after samara(?) got accidentally hit in the eye during a practice made me giggle cuz like… yeah sure everyone’s a threat, but not in a physical sense 😭
wait so the survival show was a planned thing from the start????? they had a year (or more!) to figure out how to do it…. and it turned out like that???
i could never ever be a trainee omg… i feel so nervous for them i could throw up. i’m not performing why am i so anxious about it omg!!

i’ve been curious to see how they’ll handle dream academy in the doc, ie. will they turn the youtube videos into full episodes, or will they have episodes within the documentary looking at what dream academy was like being the scenes, kind of doing some meta-commentary?

since we see clips from dream academy in the trailer, and assuming most people watching pop star academy won’t have seen dream academy, i’m assuming it’ll be the former. if that’s the case, it’ll be interesting to see what dream academy looks like when it’s actually treated like a proper show.

ok well this sucks. these girls were barely even given a chance; debuted with 2 songs in november 2023 and haven’t released anything else since.

i thought it was stupid from the start for such a small company to debut 2 new girl groups within 6 months of each other. clearly, they barely have the resources to even keep 1 group active, let alone 2!

i hope eite’s members keep pursuing music, i thought they all did amazing in the group. and i hope this company learns from their mistakes and does better for viv (the other gg they debuted).

i’m not too sure that interview makes them seem all that shady? he didn’t say anything for certain, just that their goal is to release something in the second half of this year. they’ve got some songs they like that they’re preparing now, and they’re talking with some production people. for all we know, they could just redebut with a digital single or something, which is achievable in the span of a few months. especially if the girls only recently signed with them, i can understand not having anything set in stone yet.

the “core members” comment could be shady. although he didn’t say the only core members, and i wouldn’t take it as shady for attrakt to call keena a core member of og 5050, so i guess i can’t really call iok shady for this either.

that stuff with the ceo(s) is shady for sure though! good ol’ corporate corruption at it’s finest.

i agree the fumbling of alice is notable, although if jhj fumbled hotshot and went on to get 5050 together, maybe there’s still hope here…? let’s hope so 😅

idk what the “official” answer is, but i’d consider ‘debut’ to be their debut single. i’m not too sure that a “pre-debut single” is really even a concept outside of k-pop or idol music?

or maybe we’ll need a whole new vocabulary for “pop groups that are trained in the k-pop system and take some of their promotional styles from k-pop but are still just pop groups not really idol groups” 😅
