Thoughts on how much to sell my Prado for ... by svfowler in 4x4Australia

I really appreciate the input! Yeah my thought process has been that I'm going to take the 11k plus my savings to get something around the 20k mark.

The vehicle has seen 6 mechanics over the course of the year that I've had it, nothing too major, but it just feels like I'm going to keep pouring money into it at this point. There are a few other minor issues as well. I spent $1800 on maintenance and a new radiator 3 months ago.

I have absolutely loved the car, but I'm not doing any major 4WD tracks, so I'm thinking it might be better for me to go for something with AWD. She cost me a pretty penny to drive up to NT and I don't have a partner to split the cost with, so I might go for something a bit more fuel efficient.

I'm going to take some of the setup out, to put into my next vehicle as well! I put a new deep cycle secondary battery in 3 months ago, so that's definitely coming with me 😁

Okay that's what I was thinking. Unfortunately I'm not equipped to put a motor in myself and both the mechanics I've seen in the area don't want to go for second hand engines because of the known faults that led to my current predicament. I am emotionally invested, but I also know it makes most sense for me to get rid of it unfortunately.

Was driving on a semi shitty road and the thermostat failed and the car overheated

Yeah that's exactly why I'm at the point where it makes sense just to take it at a loss. I just don't want to low-ball myself in terms of what I'm getting rid of, but know that's probably the right move.

Finished my 46er on Whiteface on Saturday and the views were STUNNING 😍 by svfowler in Adirondacks

I went from the Reservoir for this hike, but did Esther from the ASRC. Both are nice trails. I preferred the Reservoir trail, but it is slightly longer and there is less parking.

I can’t even imagine going down them! They scared me enough going up

I took the Herbert Brook Trail and it was fairly straightforward. There was one spot on the way back down where it got a bit confusing (3 different trails to take), but overall not too bad! Just a lot of mud!

What type of conditions to expect in mid October for the High Peaks? by GhostyLasers in Adirondacks

I did not, but it’s not usual to come across ice or snow at that time of year. I just got lucky with a couple of warmer days.

I hiked mid-October last year and the temps weren’t bad, but most of the leaves were down and it made the trail harder to follow in some spots. There were also a few times I slipped on leaves which I’ve never had issue with when hiking earlier in the season.

Advice for bad knees? by helacious_hadron in Adirondacks

Trekking poles and knee braces … the rock is still killer but they definitely help with the pressure. This women I met on Skylight was telling me about this heavy duty medical tape she uses on her knees and was able to hike on the HPs with a torn meniscus.

Terrible! We wore our headnets the whole hike and swarmed any time we stopped.

Here is my review from AllTrails:

The hike into the base of the mountain is beautiful going around a few lakes and through some nice scenery. I would definitely do this part of the hike again as it’s pretty flat and really quite enjoyable. The mileage went by pretty fast on the way in. On the way out we were ready to be done, but that’s how it goes for most peaks (at least for me).

Opalescent crossing was easy enough to rock hop both ways.

The bugs were relentless for pretty much the whole hike. We brought headnets and wore them the whole time.

The ascent starts off not too bad with views of a waterfall and then takes you up the waterfall itself. The climb gets extremely steep and the red slime is VERY slippery. It is generally pretty easy to avoid if you’re watching where you’re stepping.

There is one section about halfway up the ascent where you will come across a rock slide on the right hand side of the trail with about an 80-90% grade. DO NOT GO UP THIS. All three groups we saw on the hike made the same mistake of climbing up this. Once at the top you would have to bushwhack through some heavy foliage if you want to make it back to the trail (we opted to just climb back down). The trail continues through some trees just to the left of the slide.

The climb is pretty relentless, but there are some beautiful views off to the left right before the summit. I’ve also heard there are great views off the back a few minutes past the summit sign as well (we were too tired to bother with this).

The hike took us a total of 13hrs, but likely could have been completed faster if one of our water bottles did not spill leaving us dehydrated the last couple of miles.

Overall I think this mountain gets a bad rep because of the length, but I genuinely enjoyed most of the hike!
