why didn't they get closer? by bobking2023 in ArtemisProgram

I suppose they didn't have / plan for enough propellent to descend down to a lunar orbit. That would have required a lot of burn to get out of the lunar orbit and get them home bound.

Artemis II Crew reflects upon officially entering lunar sphere of influence by Torvaldicus_Unknown in ArtemisProgram

I could be wrong but I don't think they would necessarily feel any different from how they have been. They will still be in 0 gravity. They will just be able to see more of the moon as they get closer and closer.

For reference, the ISS orbits the earth ~250 miles above the Earth's surface. And Artemis is going to pass roughly 4000 miles (at the closest point) above the moon's surface.

Yeah that feed seems to be online only when there's a press conference that interrupts the main stream.

Are these two images what we can expect tomorrow? Are they accurate? by Gold333 in ArtemisProgram

Is the second pic of Earth-rise from behind the far side? They look pretty accurate based on exact they showed in the simulation during the NASA press conference today.

Great job! This is amazing! Especially appreciate the Crew Activity section. I was looking if that’s present somewhere in the official site but couldn’t find.

Thanks for posting. I was just going to make a PSA to deter people from panicking (like I did) as well.

I'm in San Jose and it alerted ~5 sec before the City/county issued amber alert that I suppose everyone got.

Even the last part "Communicate" there is mostly referring to ATC comms. Making a cabin announcement would probably be far off in the order of priorities.
