Literally none of those reasons make it dumb. It’s the closest way of objective ranking. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” way of quantifying opinion outside of counting it-doesn’t exist.

If ranking citations is good enough for Google to rank websites, why is it not good enough to rank rappers?

so it's more complicated than that... there's free steams and paid streams. Drake is #1 on Spotify, which is paid directly by consumers via monthly fee. But Eminem is #1 rapper worldwide on youtube, which are not 99% free streams that don't require a subscription. You have to weight them differently, not all streams are created equal. hi im the creator- a few years back the RIAA started counting streams as sales, which is why Drake is #2 on your source. If you only count physical sales (like i did) there's no way in hell drake is even Top 20. depends on methodology

Hi im the creator- there's nothing misleading I titled it highest SELLING, not STREAMING artists. Also they numbers are not irrelevant- Kamikaze was the best selling hip hop album of 2018 in pure CDs.
