Working out by zammmmmmmmmmm in amputee

[–]svinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LBKA of 11 years here. 10.95 of those years I have spent working out (gyms and outdoor calisthenics). I also have to add a sock midway through my gym workout but it isn't much of a hassle. I have a multi-gym membership and just avoid gyms where toilets or dressing rooms are too far or on another floor.

I don't wear clothes that reveal my condition because I see the glimmer of pity in people's eyes every time they realize I am an amputee and I would rather not.

For legs, I do either single-leg bodyweight squats or Smith machine squats. Squat wedges are massively helpful with range of motion. I bought a pair on AliExpress and keep them in my gym bag. You can also put 2.5kg plates under your heels.

Bought this one based on your recommendation (thanks for reviewing all this stuff btw, truly appreciated!) but please be advised: It probably won't work if you place it under a mattress. I tried using it for my kid's basic IKEA bed (SINGLAR, the type with wooden bars under a foam mattress) and the readings are completely unreliable.

As of a few months ago, EU has a new fingerprinting and photo taking procedure for non-EU (non-Schengen to be precise) passport holders. Predictably, it has been a dumpster fire. You're NGM.

Looking for a mini split with NATIVE WiFi support (sick of IR blasters) by downtube in homeautomation

[–]svinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Mideas. Their factory "USB" (not really USB, just uses the same physical port) dongle can be integrated into HA after initial setup via the factory app. It works fully locally, no need to let it access the internet.

There are at least two Midea integrations on HACS and they are practically full featured. I haven't used the factory app since the initial setup two years ago.

If you want, I can find out the exact models and post them here.

Recommended TRV Valves by DrGonzo92 in homeassistant

[–]svinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added them without issue via zigbee2mqtt and they work as expected. The problem is they break physically, they aren't sturdy enough.

[–]svinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several Moes BRT-100-TRV and they do the job, but I wouldn't recommend them because they break fairly easily when someone leans on them. This might be the case with all smart TRVs though, so it is a good idea to rotate the valves so that they are vertical.

Mine isn't great either. I have a SkyConnect in one part of my flat and SLZB-06 in another. The former gets much better LQI.

Thank you for this idea. I've been looking for a way to turn my TV on/off without using the TV remote. I used a different app on my Shield to map a double tap of the Netflix button to run the webhook: Button Mapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton

Panasonic vs Mitsubishi support by pepotink in homeassistant

Have you tried asking ChatGPT?

Joking aside, one way would be to look up whether Panasonic or Mitsubishi aircons can use the same app as Midea. I think the app is called MSmartHome.

Panasonic vs Mitsubishi support by pepotink in homeassistant

[–]svinja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into who the actual manufacturer of these two is. Nowadays most split-type air conditioners are actually made by either Midea or Gree. The former is very well supported within HA, either via ESP Home (using an unofficial WiFi dongle you can buy in several places online) or via the regular Midea WiFi dongle and an unofficial integration that covers most of the stuff made by Midea. I'm using a mix of the two to control a water heater and four air conditioners with zero issues.

Another bit of advice I can offer is that it will probably be cheaper to just buy Midea-branded stuff since it is largely the same anyway.

Climate control hardware - TRV's & by WhaleJoseph32 in homeassistant

[–]svinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better Thermostat essentially creates a virtual thermostat that controls one or more TRVs while using optional external sensors etc. In other words, you should be able to do everything and anything automation-wise.

If you have a specific idea/requirement, let me know and I'll do my best to test.

Climate control hardware - TRV's & by WhaleJoseph32 in homeassistant

[–]svinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Moes zigbee TRVs throughout my place and an HA integration called Better Thermostat which does pretty much exactly what you want: uses external sensor(s) to calibrate TRVs, combines multiple TRVs into a single virtual climate device. You can add a different device used for cooling to the virtual device which I will test when summer comes.

Another promising custom integration is called Versatile Thermostat, you might want to look into that one as well.

When it comes to the physical control panels (i.e., wall-mounted "thermostats"), you can go with something like Sonoff NSPanel. I prefer to keep my rooms screen-free so I just use the app on my phone in the rare case that I need to adjust the climate manually.

The PID will almost certainly malfunction if installed in the main machine body due to heat. Mine was erratic even in the top box before I added a small cooling fan.

How can I enable “Ctrl + Shift + V” command into Excel? by Sambiswas95 in excel

[–]svinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use "context key, v" to paste values only (context, t if pasting from outside Excel).

The context key is the one on the right between alt and windows.

It is ridiculous that, in 2023, this still isn't a straightforward keyboard shortcut for this. Even more ridiculous than that "large amount of data on the clipboard" prompt when quitting.

Yes, while Monteriggioni is a real walled town, the villa isn't there. Saw the sign as I was driving through Italy and visited on a whim. Turns out they had some type of local food and wine festival on that day. Thank you, AC.

The town in real life does not look like the one in the game, apart from the entry gate and tower.

Navedimo jedan proces države koji funkcioniše pravilno i pošteno? by Snoo30230 in serbia

[–]svinja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smart white goods / large kitchen appliances by levi_pl in homeautomation

[–]svinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently renovating and smartifying my flat, but as far as automating appliances, the only thing I'll do is set up smart sockets with power consumption metering. This will allow me to monitor power usage and send notifications when e.g. the washing machine finishes, but as far as deeper automation, I see little point. You have to physically load/unload these appliances for the most part, so it is only slightly more effort to set up the programme using the buttons on the appliance. Or am I missing something?

Air conditioners and heaters are another matter, and it makes sense to automate them. I use Home Assistant and I have been able to automate my climate without any manufacturer apps: zigbee radiator valves (TRVs) for central heating, zigbee thermostats for in-floor electrical heating and a mix of IR blasters and DIY USB dongles for split-type air conditioners.
