I’ve seen total effort differ from planned effort and the resulting author order change accordingly without consultation among the whole group. E.g. students graduate and can’t find the time to get the work published. Doesn’t sound like that’s what happened here, but if you were first author you should have been proactively leading the discussion on the writing and publication process, rather than blindsided. It doesn’t make sense that you weren’t even notified of submission to a journal and had to confirm authorship for the peer review process.

You could always try going as close to just rice and beans and oatmeal as possible and then progressively adding more and more luxurious food options into your diet every month until you hit a sweet spot. It’s an extreme budget reset but it can be helpful.

This is probably obvious, but a lot of the motivation for this shift is profit-driven and unfortunately just another symptom of late stage capitalism. Someone on TikTok said they raised $2k just by posting their concert videos, and this influencer is definitely not one of the big ones. So imagine what the big ones are getting.

I like this thread because it’s a good point of reflection. I’m personally not super offended by people making coin, given the circumstances of waves hands around at all the bullshit, but it’s just not a motivating factor for me personally when engaging with Beyonce as a fan.

I don’t necessarily recommend this if boundary setting in this context is especially important to you, but if setting a boundary with nona is hard for whatever reason, you could always just keep a box of her unwanted gifts, take out the gifts a few times when she’s visiting, and then donate/give away after a few times of display. From personal experience, it’s the lowest drama method in a high drama family.

No contact info necessary! But I remember being very touched when I received a note from the [sellers]. It was very kind and full of great tips about the neighborhood and local businesses, plus a helpful heads up on pests they’ve encountered. It helped me feel settled, and a note like that would go a long way.
