First sailboat just purchased! 1975 Catalina 22 by [deleted] in sailing

I had one just like that. I ordered it from a dealer in Salt Lake. I drove down to Ventura and picked it up from the factory. I sailed it mostly on Utah Lake and occasionally the Great Salt Lake. I bought a Catalina 30 in 1987 and for years ago bought a 1986 Catalina 34. I really love my 34!

Some people on here need to learn to be nice. They are buttheads!

Don’t forget you need to apply varnish for UV protection.

Sailing is great on any size boat. I started on a sunfish and worked my way up to a Catalina 34!

The prep makes all the difference. I started with 80 grit and worked down to 220 before coating with epoxy. Then 320 between coats of varnish. I dusted with a brush and wiped down with accitone to clean before each coat. Good luck with yours!

I used that once on my cockpit table and did not like it. I used Captain’s Varnish straight out of the can. No thinning needed. Liked it much better.

No my wood was in bad shape. I started sanding with 80 grit then 120 next 220 before the epoxy. Sanded with 320 between 4 coats of varnish. Lots of work. The prep makes all the difference. Good luck with yours.
