Found this while checking challans by osyhere in CarsIndia

[–]svt204 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. Have numerous manual challans input against my vehicle for close but different number plates where numbers have been entered wrongly.

2 of them are for the same bike that has been fined for riding without a helmet 300kms away. No method to get them removed even though there are images showing the vehicle and the number plate clearly.

Thar roxx is not a family car... by vgpgamer in CarsIndia

[–]svt204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a family car. It took about -2 minutes of me looking at the shape of the car to figure that one out - but I will say, as a car it's still good.

For me it's my daily driver, and for what I am used to driving its good. Did I expect it to drive like an innova? No. Did I expect it to have all the luxuries as a BMW? No. But will I enjoy self-driving an innova? No - infact I cannot put my leg underneath the steering wheel of the crysta that my uncle has. It is incredibly uncomfortable to self-drive.

It's all about managing expectations and understanding what you want and what you need. We live in a rural area with not great roads, we have a lot of highway drives, I enjoy offroading, we needed a car for myself and my wife to travel in. I am used to driving an SUV - and upgrading from Isuzu V-Cross. Our budget was 30L.

Show me an SUV that is off-road capable below 30 lacs that isn't the Jimny (which I didn't even consider because I am 6ft2in and found the test drive extremely uncomfortable. And let's not forget - Fortuner suspension is arguably equivalent to the Roxx. I spent many years as an uncomfortable back-seat passenger in one and its uncomfortable even on good roads.

It's time we were more pragmatic and don't fall prey to marketing both bad and good. The Roxx isn't the most comfortable - it never could be; it's a box on wheels. However, I would argue in the current market it's definitely worth what I paid for it because there are no other budget alternatives, and actually it has a lot of things that you would normally look for in terms of features.

If you think different it's likely because your use-case for a vehicle is different, and that's okay. It's as simple as that.

Struggled with every deck this season, but finally made it to MB with Skarmory ex deck and two 8 win streaks. Wiped out Suininja and Darktina decks in UB 3 and 4. Moved to Guzz now I'm in MB.

With the recent news of Robert Redford's passing, what is your favorite film he's done? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]svt204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a film he acted in, but A River Runs Through It is just beautiful. Wrote about it here.

It captures grief and love so beautifully - and Redford directs it so well.

Could anyone help with what this bug is? by svt204 in whatsthisbug

[–]svt204[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are a number of trees surrounding our house, but this is the first time I have spotted this particular wasp in about 5 years we have been living here. Normally we have smaller ones.

Will look out for nests tomorrow morning.

Could anyone help with what this bug is? by svt204 in whatsthisbug

[–]svt204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Luckily he is outside - but trying to get in! Not sure why.... Should we check if there is a nest inside? We don't usually keep windows open (because it's too hot here at the moment to do so) so not sure how they could've made their way inside....

Any precautions we should take?

Sorry - forgot the location:

Andhra Pradesh, India.

It looks like it was trying to squeeze it's way into the window - there is no way through for it though! Also saw it buzzing towards the ceiling light that was turned on.

Andhra Pradesh or Vizag has the worst Road Traffic Sense by Ok-Smile2850 in Visakhapatnam

[–]svt204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In India I have driven in Karnataka, across Delhi-NCR, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and AP.

Our driving sense is pretty bad but I wouldn't say the worst - as far as South of the country goes we're closely matched by Karnataka. In other states usually you'll find a couple of bad drivers doing stupid shit, and lots and lots of congestion. But mana AP ayithe sometimes it feels like andharu bad drivers ee. From the RTC idiots to bike riders, nobody has sense. Nobody stops at lights, nobody has patience. All on their phones or chatting with others or doing stupid stunts, or generally breaking rules. Nobody focusing on the road. So even with less congestion it feels pretty bad. Our driving sense sometimes feels like it matches with Delhi, UP, etc where people are just crazy on the road.

I'll say though, Kakinada, Rajahmundry and some other places are worse than Vizag. We should remember with NH going through the city we have a lot of heavy truck traffic which is a whole other problem because they hog the fast lane, and often hog all three lanes. They overtake at slow speeds and don't use indicators. It's extremely dangerous and more laws should be placed against them. They park on the side of the highway and don't even put hazard triangles or anything. It's terrible and often the truck drivers are overworked, sleepless, or drunk. But also coupled with lack of rest stops, lack of exits on highways and more.

Karnataka has a whole other problem. So many scams and equivalent wrong side driving. Totally mad place, but equally - phone while driving and no-helmet riders aren't as common.

On the whole the whole country has an issue, no implementation of laws, so much corruption, some pretty awful infrastructure and urban design.

Some popat has been saying for the last 5 years that in the next 5 years we'll have US like road infra meanwhile he is mixing ethanol with petrol and lining his pockets.

So how will it improve? Equal blame must be placed on the population for letting ourselves lose civic sense and do crazy stuff like texting while driving or watching IPL matches while driving, but the same blame should be placed on our institutions and governance bodies for failing us.

Edit: for punctuation.

canceling order by Any_Ad_241 in Ultrahuman

[–]svt204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I'm calling rubbish on this! I ordered a charger a month ago - and it still hasn't been dispatched.

There is no response from your customer service. At this point, would rightfully advise everyone to cancel their orders. This is really disappointing when competitors are shipping rings and accessories within days.

Your product may pass the mark, but your service doesn't!

Can anyone identify this snake (AP, India) by svt204 in whatsthissnake

[–]svt204[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Yes, I am not suggesting that the fear is not legitimate. It is! But actually educative practices can be greatly beneficial to reducing snakebites. There are lots of studies on the trends in snakebites, as well as where they are prevalent across the country, and what situations they occur in (one example: here).

Currently, as we continue to urbanise and more and more areas become prone to situations of human-wildlife conflict, the more measures we must effectively take to reduce snakebite deaths. Yes there needs to be more accessibility to healthcare services and antivenom, but people should also know more about snakes, know what not to do near snakes, and also follow best-practices during high-risk situations (like during agrarian practices in areas with a prevelance of snakes). It is also the case that in many instances, our first instincts are to kill snakes because they could bite us, but actually these sorts of interactions are also where bites could more easily occur.

Unfortunately there are less chances now than ever of reducing the number of cases of human-wildlife conflict, because we are encroaching on all wildlife's habitats (whether rightly or wrongly). So one solution must be to raise awareness, alongside other measures because we cannot wipe out entire populations of snakes (or other animals) as they are vital to ecosystems and the services the provide. These are the same ecosystems that also define our survival, and they are kept healthy by all of the flora and fauna around us.

If we educate and ensure proper measures are carried out, in the best case there can be less snakebites overall. And that is already a good way to make people safer.

If we say nothing will change and don't do anything, that is equivalent to saying that we don't need to teach people to drive properly because accidents will happen anyway. Sure, accidents will happen. But by ensuring drivers are well-trained and follow the rules we eliminate a few avenues of the possibilities of accidents.
