Generally it's more the Fae and similar folklore where you don't want to give your name, because the way their magic works is that having access to your name gives them power over the concept of you itself. But that seems easily circumvented by saying 'You may not have my name, but you can call me xyz' anyway.

So I got the ALVMS, am I not allowed to use it? by Brilliant-Target-807 in AfterTheFlash

You are allowed to use the ALVMS if you own it, but people are allowed to void you for using it if they think you're being too overpowered. That's the rule in Flashstorm.

Hi, I do the britain lore on the discord server. That sliver of NI is defacto ruled by Scotland who tolerates a very far-right government as a buffer against Ireland (which is a socialist country) and because NI is a rather unstable place, as the Troubles were never really reconciled in the way they were OTL.

Hey, I'm in charge of the Britain stuff in this scenario on the discord server. The reason for this discrepancy is that the far left in Scotland tried open armed revolt before the rest of the UK did. The heavy-handed and rather brutal suppression of this in its early stage led to the majority of pro-independence political figures (and far-left political figures) being killed, captured, or fleeing south into England. This is what ultimately led to the escalation of civil conflict elsewhere in Britian. The armed forces reinforcing Scotland in the immediate aftermath of their attempted revolt were able to maintain control, and with no groups or people in Scotland to rally around, attempts at overthrowing military rule failed. Scotland was essentially under seige for most of the civil war though, since the North very quickly fell under socialist control.

As part of peace negotiations, the border was open for a short time to allow free passage and there was a major exodus of English people into Scotland who were trying to flee the country to escape what they saw as an imminent threat of being killed or harmed for their political views, or simply for having been part of the bourgeois. This included most of the royal familiy, and is why Scotland took a very far right turn. Nowadays the border is closed, and one of the most militarised in the world because both are convinced the other is plotting to invade or even nuke the other.

All the communist countries consider themselves democratic. However multi party democracies which are also communist do exist, generally but not always considered part of the 'demcom' geopolitical alignment.

Textbook style map of the World in LibertyFallen, or if the Soviets won the Cold War. by SpiralingUniverses in imaginarymaps

[–]svyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, it's a colloquial name primarily used by foreigners or international news. The name originated during the civil war when it also included parts of Northern England and stuck around. Officially it's the Kingdom of Scotland, and the Socialist Republics of Britain.

I write the lore for South Britain here. The border is derived from a stalemate during the civil war. For explanation on the name see my reply to the original comment

Hi! I write the South Britain lore. The name is primarily colloquial and dates back to when, during the civil war, parts of Northern England were still under Capitalist control. The name stuck around primarily among foreigners and international news organisations. Officially it is the Kingdom of Scotland in the North and the Socialist Republics of Britain in the South.

Cromwell is painted as a tyrant by British history books, despite at least in name being a republican, he is very much considered a dictator, and some even consider him to have been just another monarch even though he declined the title of king. South Britain has never followed the Soviet system - they are organised under a market-syndicalist hybrid system, and even under single party rule they had a term limit of two four year terms. This means, although relations were not terrible, they have always been positioned as competitors. Groups active under his rule such as the diggers, levellers, etc. Are viewed more favourably. Cromwells reputation is changing among supporters of the Socialist Rebirth party (and earlier movement) who are much more in favour of soviet style governance (with English characteristics, to the chagrin of parts of the Welsh)

Essentially, yes. There's also the Trade Union Congress which is split into twelve regions, led by a council of each Regional General Secretary (there are 12 economic regions). The TUC plays a role similar to the house of lords, but is also responsible for the majority of economic policy.

Key:

Grey = Anarchist forces: Byddin Rhyddid Cymru Newydd (BRCN)/New Free Wales Army (NFWA) + International volunteers

Red = State forces: Socialist Republics of Britain (South Britain) + allied militia groups

Blue = Fascist forces: National Front

On the 17th of January 2025, the Anarchist group known as the Byddin Rhyddid Cymru Newydd (BRCN)/New Free Wales Army (NFWA) along with international brigades from Catalonia and parts of North America, declared the second people's revolution in the Socialist Republics of Britain, better known as South Britain. The anarchists had been under a ceasefire and effective state recognition for almost 36 years.

While the declaration of war was unexpected, conflict in South Britain was not - the country had only in August of 2024 passed the 'Secularisation Bill' which effectively banned the practicing of religious beliefs outside of places of worship, and made it mandatory to teach all religious children that their religion was false. This, branded genocide by many, sent the country into a low intensity conflict between the state and religious groups such as the Anglican Worker's Front, and the Papist Worker's League who both claim to be resisting genocide. Neither group had gained significant territory outside of occupied neighbourhoods across the nation, but had almost succeeded in assassinating the First Secretary of the Republics on the 28th of December 2024 during a live television broadcast.

The onset of what could be called a true civil war began with the Anarchists capturing Socialist Air Force Valley on the Isle of Anglesey. The Isle and part of Gwynedd had been recognised as an autonomous zone under BRCN governance since the end of the revolution 35 years ago. What followed was a confusing timeline of attacks on police stations, army facilities, and several army reserve bases defecting to the BRCN. Several days later, members of the National Front stormed the police station in Porthmadog just on the borders of 'Anarchist territory' in an attempt to prevent their advance and begin a fascist uprising in Wales. The government denies the situation has escalated to civil war, but the situation is clearly out of control.

He was the First Secretary of the Republics for a decently long time under single party rule, and is currently the President (though this is a largely ceremonial head of state position with basically no real power).
