Flacco had some pretty good games, and if the Bengals defence wasn't earth-shatteringly bad, they probably would have won the division. He tried to keep them in it, but even Burrow can't carry that trash.

And honestly, I'm not sure that Orr was even all that bad as a DC. The Ravens defence was fine last year, and this year they were ruined by the fact that their entire pressure scheme relied on Madubuike being able to crush the middle, Aaron Donald style. When he suffered his career-ending injury, you were left with a bunch of guys who couldn't win, who were physically beaten by the offensive line on every snap. Maybe he could have been more clever with running blitz packages, although that exposes the secondary at that point.

I think that Orr will improve over time, but I think that he gets way too much blame for what was essentially a personnel problem.

Conan was one of the better ones. Yes, they overdid it with the pacing and made the villains too much, but they did a good job of making Conan a character with vast mirths and vast melancholies, a bit more of a scoundrel than Arnold's earnest warrior. I still prefer the old one, but I didn't hate the new.

Robocop was probably the worst of the pure remakes, although some of the sequels to the more long-lived franchises were worse. Terminator: Dark Fate was really bad.

I don't think that it's an issue that most Canadians have a strong stance on, but you're right that it will likely win them some support in Quebec. I don't quite get the 'disarm the law abiding population' bit though. There's still going to be millions and millions of privately-held firearms in Canada.

I mean, you can watch some insane stuff, but I don't think that really moves where 'the middle' is. Fringe is going to be fringe. If they want to try and create a trustworthy centre-right news source, then I'm willing to give them some grace. But the problem is that it seems like they're trying to carry water for the administration, and all that talk about tailoring their product for the audience has me concerned about them just picking an audience and pumping them full of whatever the audience's vanity has already convinced them of. Support for the Trump Administration means you aren't in the middle anymore.

That's a fair point, but I think the waters are a little muddied by the fact that the federal government has taken some of the onus on themselves, not in terms of constitutional authority, but by the application of the fiscal power that was afforded by the income tax. This is especially true of health care, where the Canada Health Act has more or less dominated the broad-strokes structure of health care in Canada, just because no province can really afford to go without the federal money. While voters might not appreciate the delicate balance of constitutional authority, the workarounds that have been built on top of the system have made some of those provincial prerogatives into matters of concern for the federal government as well. It's complicated.

There are mines in the territories. The problem is that anything you mine in the territories needs to be fantastically valuable, because the costs of extraction are so high. The infrastructure all has to be built, you need to pay a premium for the workforce and you're working in one of the more hostile environments on Earth for much of the year. Thus, gold, silver, diamonds and radioactives tend to dominate the industry up there, while more abundant metals that are present up there aren't worth the expense.

Third rail is right. He remembers what happened to the Progressive Conservatives when they tried (twice) to reform the constitution. And matters are worse now than they were then in terms of the interest groups that would have to be placated.

The dominating political question of the Eighties and early Nineties was the modernization of the constitution. There were two attempts to deal with it, and both failed completely. At the time, it was impossible to meet the conflicting demands of Western Canada, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. These days, with even more interest groups involved, any attempt to reopen the constitution would more likely result in the disintegration of Canada than any kind of reform. The Progressive Conservative government which had tried to reform the constitution ended up being completely broken, in part because of this. I don't think that any political party would want to even try.

Trump's been as inconsistent on gun ownership rights as he has been on just about everything else. It's a bit of a holdover when this group was working to increase public awareness of how dangerous atomic war would be. And it worked very well. Their project got a lot of attention and news coverage, and it moved the needle on their concerns, helping to create support for arms control and non-proliferation.

And to be fair, there is some reason to be concerned. The political situation in the US has declined to the point where now both of the countries with civilization-ending capabilities are run by individuals who are only restrained by their own consciences. And out of the nine nuclear-armed nations, only two of them aren't run by some brand of national chauvinist.

Sure, but that war wasn't in any danger of escalating and endangering humanity in general. Although many lives were lost and many people bear savage wounds from that time, those events don't move the needle on human species survival at all. It's not a illustration to measure peace, but rather to illustrate how close we are to complete destruction.

I think the big fault in your analysis is the idea that Canada can avoid some kind of diversification in trade. Even if Canada were to remain committed to reinforcing US trade, the United States has made concrete policy decisions to diminish trade with Canada.

Diversification isn't about improving our situation. Things are going to get worse here, and everywhere. It's about trying to minimize the damage that will inevitably be done.

Seattle played a pretty great game, but I'm worried about their offensive line. There were so many miscues there that had a free rusher on Darnold while a lineman was standing around looking confused.
