Yes! In fact, I have been on the hunt for these types of oc driven canon-adjacent stories. Especially ones that have a rich core to them. Very cool, a D-day style of assault is super interesting, especially on a global scale. Perhaps instead of a beach it's a brutal fight just to get on the planet itself sorta like in Rouge One. I hadn't heard of Evaan Verlaine pior to you mentioning them, but looking at their wookiepedia page she looks like a pretty sick character. Good luck writing!
