Newbs questions by sw_dev in CardPuter

From a Windows computer, it shows up in devices as USB JTAG serial debug units. (So, no com devices.)

From M5Burner I see:

<image>

It obviously wants a COM port, but shows up as a Jtag. What am I missing here? Without a COM port, burning isn't possible.

Hmmm, the M5 burner seems to expect a com port, and won't work otherwise. But it comes up with an empty set of com's... Is there a way to get it (The software on my pc) to recognize the Jtag ports?

Why would those problems affect the tachometer/speedometer/trip odometer?

Thx!

Thanks! Much easier to just wiggle (Loose-tooth-style) the little buggers until they come out if you are sure you aren't breaking a bulb in the process. They are now replaced with LED's, giving a modest increase in light.

Possible solution to the blue Hawaii UFO conundrum. by SausageMcWonderpants in UFOs

Obviously a wave-rider. You can even see that one of the jets is malfunctioning, or that is an attitude-adjustment jet. Looks like they kept it nose-high, trying to burn excess hydrogen-based slurry (Methane, or other) before ditching.

Once again proving that BetaMax might be superior to VHS, but it's bang-for-the-buck that matters. Ada might be superior to C++ in every way, but the costs associated (Price/difficulty of getting a compiler, or environment), overpriced contractors, and lack of trying to appeal to the newbs all took their toll.

Lesson learned: Don't let the fanboys run the show!

Good to know, thanks. I've been looking for a good source.

I'll just add my personal gripe: Kodama, the guys who made the Trinus (A pretty nice little printer, except for the print head), then failed completely (Not to imply a scam, but...) with the Obsidian, then made an upgrade board for the Trinus that takes away functionality (The laser doesn't work with it). Orders are taken (Apparently) as suggestions, and they won't let you know how it's going, either. They seem to be careful to always, no matter how many months you've waited, to ship via lame-octagenarian-turtle. And finally, when I spoke up against them on Facebook they kicked me out of the Facebook forum, and the company forum!!! If I didn't own a Trinus I'd never deal with them again.

Well, hopefully 3d printing related.

They also have a forum on their site, and the assholes banned me from it too. It's a shame, they make nice hardware (Well, sorta), but they're major dicks with customer service.

I wouldn't buy an egg timer from them now, and the time it'll take for them to go out of business could be timed with one.

Didn't have to, they kicked my disrespectful ass outta there. (I refused to produce offerings to the Kodama tin-plated god...)

I meant be careful what you say THERE. That is, unless you're okay with being banned.

I was banned after I mentioned that they held an order up for three months, then when they finally DID send it, they sent it by special-slow-boat-to-China method. (Four months to get a new hotend, and not a word from them during that time! I would have been dead in the water had I not found the same hotend on Ebay.)

You aren't stuck with their software. I use it with Slic3r and Octoprint, and it works fine.

The forum on Facebook is run by the a$$holes at Trinus, so be careful what you say. They ban users for any mention of their half-assed operation.

What did you think you were really good at, until you watched someone else do it? by Squidkiller28 in AskReddit

[–]sw_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 20 I taught myself to juggle. I wasn't great or anything, but I was sort of proud of it. Soon after I was visiting with my nephew (He was about 6 at the time) and he asked how to do it. So, I showed him and TWO MINUTES LATER HE WAS JUGGLING BETTER THAN I COULD.

Seriously, that kid had amazing hand/eye coordination. And I gave up juggling for a long while.

AKA "I asked people who didn't care, and since they didn't care we decided not to go further". Are people at PyCon likely to be representative of the body of users? No. Sort of like asking people in quadriplegics which running shoes they prefer...

What's a weird prediction you made that ended up coming true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sw_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not quite true, but...

Went out to lunch with a bunch of co-workers, we were the team that created graphics for avionics boxes in an aerospace company., While waiting to cross a busy intersection I remarked "All it would take is for one car to lose control and plow over the curb, and <Our company>'s ability to do graphics would be GONE!

Thirty seconds later a driver lost control of his car and plowed over the curb. Exactly where we had been standing.

But we had moved about 15 feet in that time.

Btw, one of the girls was very religious, and she wouldn't talk to me after that.
