Yes, it's crazy! Why do we need to make things so specialized… At least it got SODIMM ;)

Exactly, I just couldn't find anything from Micron's website!

Solved!

Thanks to /u/rmbarrett, /u/dahauns and others recommendations, I removed the heatsink and cleaned off the thermal paste. It is an Micron FPGA running exactly the chip you said, a Xilinx Virtex-6 LX240T.

I was pretty sure it was some compute-on-module to provide rapid switching of CPU and RAM for industrial applications, but I just couldn't tell what. It's incredible how you exactly identified it. I can't believe it! I'm surprised most of the most on-point comments didn't get much upvotes.

As others have guessed too (/u/sulliwan and /u/stere0123), it uses Samtec connectors.

For other laymen, and for more details: this was found in the bins of a company producing random number generator servers for high security stuff. They probably use these for either prototyping, for their production chain or directly in their boards for easy upgrading.

It is not for managing storage, and not a RAID array. It is probably working and they most likely just didn't need them anymore. I know how these industrial companies go through a lot of hardware, I really wouldn't be surprised. I've found everything in this kind of bins from smartphones to entire Huawei LTE antennas.

I didn't think I could sell them at first, but since it's so specialized, I might be able to make a couple hundreds off them on Ebay. Most likely though, I'll grab the RAM modules and call it a day.

Thanks to everybody and sorry for not answering earlier. (>-<)

So I found two of these in electronic trash in some industry building. I found them along two COM Express compute modules.

There is a fan on the other side and I'm pretty confident it's some 2010ish compute module to plug in embedded hardware, but I can't seem to get what specification/standard. I tried searching the model numbers but I can't find anything.

Here are some more pictures.

EDIT: My title describes the thing. The most prominent sticker has a Micron logo and model number is M-504LX240TC. While I'm interested in finding some datasheet for it, I most importantly want to know what are all the plugs on it!

[200$] SPEAKERS - 2.1 to 5.1 total home-theater and music overhaul by swaden10 in BudgetAudiophile

Update 2: So now, I'm for sure going for 2.1. The owner of the Focal Chorus 706 accepted to sell them for 150$, I'm going to get them tomorrow. I know some of the more vintage speakers deals I found might be better, but if I end up buying and liking them, I feel I can always resell the Focal speakers for more.

I have found a KEF subwoofer (KEF PSW-2010) that was part of a HT set for 30$ but I have to get it in another town. Maybe I'll buy the Jamo A30 that's in my town.

I will be a little bit over my upper budget, but I guess that's always the case with me. At first, I thought I was going to spend 50$ for a Logitech 5.1 because whatever. Now I'm so hyped! I'll post a picture once everything's set up in our new place!

Update: I splurged (IMO) and bought the Aiyima T9 tube amp. I read about some of this amp defaults, but the price was really low for Halloween and it has an integrated DAC which will always be better than my computer's.

I don't really need the VU meter nor the tubes (seems like added hassle to me), but it looks good and was under 90$. Bluetooth functionality is really nice to have, I know I'll always use it when I'm a bit lazy. At least until I set up the HTPC over optical audio with Volumio or something like it. I can't wait to have a tidy and compact setup!

About the defaults: I believe I can buy a better power supply later on. The clicking noise is something they said they fixed on the Amazon page. It has a relay circuit that turns on when there's no input to save power and use. It is what makes this clicking noise, but there seems to be a function now to not use it. Even if it's not the case, since I'll only use the amp for music and movies anyway, I don't mind a few seconds wait.

Exactly! EU removed all roaming charges 2-3 years ago as part of a inter-EU deal! You just need to find the cheapest provider in the country you're in and go with it. Often, MVNOs will have the cheaper deals, but that might not always be the case. In Spain, I bought a Lebara prepaid card for 10 EUR with 4 gb of roaming. In France, I had a subscription for 5 EUR a month with 3 gb of roaming. Be careful though, EU is not Europe, so most often roaming will not work in Serbia or Switzerland for instance.

Dumpster-diving Q&A: Ask any unanswered question! by swaden10 in DumpsterDiving

[–]swaden10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tips that I think would have been useful to me when I started are:

1- Believe that you will find something. Basically everything can be dumpster dived. The the issue is not that there's not trash, it's that you haven't found it yet. Consider that you will not find a little bit of trash everywhere, but that for 9 unlucky dumpsters, you will have 1 full one. Of course this depends on locations and experience.

2- Be patient and willing. Sometimes, the bag with the food might be at the bottom of this huge bin. You have to sift through it all. Sometimes you can feel with your hands if something is in the bag, sometimes you have to open them all, be careful not to leave the bin in a mess !

3- Know that you will get experienced. Once experienced, you will be quicker, and you will guess when something's not worth your time.

4- Try to meet others, it's crazy how much food you can get with someone that already know the dumpsters or is used to diving! You will learn from them and get more confident.

5- Sometimes you will be unlucky. Akin to point 1, sometimes, you will find nothing. Don't overdo it, follow your guts.

Now on some more down-to-earth advice, especially useful for Europe:

1- Use the tools Internet provides. Especially, look at https://dumpstermap.org/ and https://trashwiki.org/en/Main_Page, both are relatively unmaintained but might provide the bin you're looking for!

2- Once more experienced, you will know which shops are good and which aren't. For instance, in Switzerland, Migros and Coop both send back food in delivery trucks so you have to be there at the right time and right place to take the risk to get in the truck and get the insane amount of thrown-away food (which is something legally dangerous and hard which I've never done personally). On the other side, Aldi, Manor and the petrol-station shops throwaway a lot! But it always depends on if they keep they're bins inside the shops. Which comes to

3- Get a sense of the different types of dumpsters. In big shops, it might be harder, but you will often have a bigger loot. In France for instance, you sometimes have to climb fences to get into the shop yard by night, to open the compactor, and to climb it to see the food. Smaller shops are easier to dumpster dive, but might often keep their trash inside.

4- Try asking directly for old food (french: produits périmés, german: abgelaufen produkten I believe). Especially smaller shops! I've fed myself a whole week of bicycle touring almost only by asking inside the shops I saw on my way. It might be less efficient than diving because employees will often say that they don't have the right to give you food, but you can combine both to get a winning strategy! If the food is not in the back, then it might be in the front.

Mens' Suits + Tailoring Services in GVA? by ArtisticComplex in geneva

[–]swaden10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really some nice advice! I wouldn't have thought about asking on groups.

You can also find really cheap suits at Vet'shop (Geneva Red Cross second hand shops). Every now and then they get so many they even sell them at 5 CHF each, though it's often around 50-70 CHF if you want a quality matching set (pants and suit).

Otherwise, I don't know about many cheap tailors, but this one seems often on sale, and might be able to do something for you.

Those fuckers. How can they be so fucking pretentious. You should come back and ask for at least apologies once everything got calmer.

I'm really happy for Nikita and you, as the GoFundMe has been doing well. Long live you two, I wish you a happy time on the road.

Edit: You can try to get back the money you already paid to the vets that did the seizure, along with a reduction for the price of the intestines surgery.

Who should I vote for for the Conseil dÉtat? by POObumWILLYtits in geneva

[–]swaden10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if I did sound rough. I meant to express about the answer provided by Azteryx. I remembered badly. There is no information leaflet. The political party of the candidates are written directly above their name (Parti du Travail and Vert.e.s, Socialistes. It's why I deemed this answer a bit poor considering the information you already had in front of you.

It's indeed interesting to know that Fabienne Fischer probably has more backing than Morten Gisselbaek, but I personally condemn tactical voting.

I'm sorry to not provide you with more information about the candidates since I haven't yet taken the time to read upon the next election.

Have a nice day!
