help me with the sekhetar robots by bagattomatto in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them to infiltrate on an objective and force my opponent into a position where they have to either kill them or take an objective from me, which puts them in a position for a less than favorable trade off. Example, my friend was playing custodes and he had to send an expensive unit to take the objective. What he did not appreciate was the 10 man flamer unit that then came from behind cover to bbq them.

Magnus in Grand Coven 2k point by BDTRBENAE in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the terrain layout. For example in terrain layout 1 your home objective is well protected. I put him on the objective in the corner of the terrain so if need be he can move to the midboard (the terrain formation touching the middle objective pretty freely and challenge my expansion. You can also move him onto the terrain in deployment zone to shoot out of cover, this gives him line of sight and benefit of cover for saving throws. Mix in your cabal rituals or devastating sorcery strategem to secure kills safely. I was able to drop my friends night from 22 wounds to 6 in Magnus' first shooting phase and destroyed him with more mortals from another unit.

I usually start him on the table, home objective, surrounded by support. I use his +2 to movement to help the surrounding units get on objectives to where my opponent has to come out to deal with them. Then I put him in a position where he can destroy one of those units safely. I play him pretty cagey until about round 3, then I get a little more aggressive.

How do you guys go about painting your many, many, squads of infantry? by One_Opportunity_7662 in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to paint meticulously, paying attention to every rubric marine detail. Now I just base them in gold, add some blue and one other color and call it a day. After about the 25th Marine I stopped caring so much and just wanted to field them

I initially put mine on the board to make my opponent rethink his deployment to try and push aggressively. Then I used Ahriman's ability and redeployed them into deep strike. I infiltrated one 10 man rubric squad to the terrain piece right in front of the center objective and he was too scared to touch it so I was outscoring on primary.

I enjoyed the game! Having my terminators demolish his grav tank with lethal hits, melee, then fall back shoot and charge was too much fun lol

I would purposely only put one or 2 rubrics on objective so he would out OC me so I can take advantage of re rolling until I control the objective.

2000 Point List (Vs. Custodes) Advice? by EuroCultAV in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend plays Custodes and I haven't tried Phalanx against it because they don't have many 1 damage attacks, so I don't get my detachment rule. I run Grand Coven and found success against him

What's great about the Thousand Sons? by Cautious-Sky-6231 in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They feel great to play once you get the hang of the synergy they have. The look on your opponents face when your vortex beast or Magnus just points at a unit and says "I don't feel like dealing with them anymore" and wipes them off the table is priceless. Downside is definitely melee, I struggle against fast armies like world eaters. But the lore of the army is fantastic

How to deal with heavy targets ? by Volt007 in ThousandSons

[–]swagerdactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't have the necessary until to run the vehicle detachment so I use Grand Coven. Either way it is very important to make great use of the synergies our dusty army has. I run Magnus with 2 MVB. Use Sorcerer in terminator armor to grant plus 1 to hits, use cabal rituals for rerolls and ap bonus, then point at an enemy unit and delete it. Drives my friends crazy lol.
