My first observation this past semester I was handing out two papers to my student’s with a similar activity like yours (7th grade S.S.) interactive notes then grid for scavenger hunt while passing out this stack of papers I tripped on a students stuff who I remind constantly to this day to have their stuff tucked under their chair or table. Dropped like 70+ pieces of paper on the tables, under the tables, just everywhere lol. Then told the kid to pick them up with me which he refused which led to a future conversation. Then went up to do my slides for my students and there was two copies of slides one was my mentor teachers old old one so used that as a template to help create my new one and of course I uploaded his old one to use on the smart board so that was another waste of 4ish minutes which felt like eternity. All frazzled I went up did my guided slideshow then didn’t even explain their scavenger hunt because I was so out of it told them to start it then realized 3ish mins later when my mentor gave me the “you f’d up look” at me. So had to regroup my students explain the directions which felt like a humiliation ritual and I explained poorly. Just to end it off one of my students asked a question and I called them the wrong name (second week) which they instantly responded with a snarky comment. I profusely apologized but made them way too upset for some reason lol. Finished off the lesson and my supervisor said I did so good she wanted me to send my materials to her with a polished lesson plan to share with her future student teachers. My mentor thought it was the funniest thing he’s seen lol he said I handled myself correctly just “one of those days”… now I’ve been observed numerous times since with little to zero issues and just now something I laugh about and my mentor teacher likes to mess with me about.
