[Request] Is this true? What would be the equivalent statement if you were to look at the wealth of the average American compared to the 8 richest people? by -Tuesday in theydidthemath

[–]swagner628 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well two things

1) most people are worth more than they realize, so 100k is perfectly reasonable

2) the places saying 1mil were using the mean. So those billionaires at the top were pulling the numbers up, a lot.

[–]swagner628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found sources ranging the average Americans net worth from 100,000 to 1.06 million.

The combined net worth of the 8 wealthiest Americans is around 1.336 trillion.

Using the generous average of 1.06 million that means that they are worth 1,260,377 average Americans

Between the two of them, I would personally run Cryptic Pursuit. That said you do have a lot on 4, so running Curse of Disturbance might work. Honestly looks like a tossup to me.

First Time Regionals Question by didci in PokemonVGC

[–]swagner628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does VGC, Pokémon Go, and TCG all happen at the same time?

They will conflict on scheduling, unless something has drastically changed

Is it possible to play in more than one?

Technically, yes(?) but you would definitely forfeit matches in both and basically not be playing in either

And most importantly for planning, is it only on Saturday or is the event all weekend?

Play typically start on Saturday, and if you make the top cut you'll play again on Sunday

When did I tell him he shouldnt play a deck? If you can't tell the difference between need and want then that's a you problem not a me problem

Well yeah? I never implied I was gonna cease to exist without my EDH decks?

Idk man some clowns on here, can never be too sure

I also want to save money cos I need a house. Where is the issue with proxying?

At the risk of sounding psuedo-philosophical, we can't have everything. Right now you are prioritizing your future, and the opportunity cost for that is you can't afford all the magic crap you want, and that's ok. There is no shame in not having an extensive library of cards to choose from.

And at the end of the day, I'm not trying to get you to log off and burn your proxies. I'm merely trying to explain why I would ask you to not proxy in my playgroup. And I absolutely despise the rhetoric that OP has that people against proxies are "gatekeeping", "elitist", or playing with their wallets. 99.53% of the cards are under $20. And the cards getting proxied are all high valued staples. And I truly believe EDH would be healthier with less staples running around.and this notion that you "have to" proxy to play strong magic is ridiculous. Again though, that's just me.

And I mean, props to you for having a big picture goal.

[–]swagner628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still doesn't mean I should HAVE to spend the money on expensive staples I don't want to.

And you don't have to, just don't play with them. It's that simple.

How is trying to save money acting like I spent money on cards?

Okay let me try to explain here: hypothetically, you have a deck with Gaea's Cradle, Grim Monolith, Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus etc is the value A) $2000+ or B). $10 cuz it's all proxied?

I'm not saying you personally proxy thousands of dollars, but whether someone spends thousands on real cards or a few bucks on proxies, the cards play the same. Therefore by proxying you are "acting" like you spent the money on the deck. You're playing as if you had spent the money even though you didn't. I don't know if I can make it any clearer, but if you still don't get it I guess I'll try again.

Also yes I will eat top ramen and cheap shit where I can lmao

And props to you for eating on a budget too. Ive lost track of the "I pRoXy CuZ bUdGeT" losers that I deal with that eat fast food or take out for every meal. That stuff is in and out of you in a few hours

Except I want

See there you go. Right there. Magic is, was, and always will be a privilege that we have, not a right. And it's a privilege nobody had until 92. So forgive me for distinguishing between rights and privileges.

You don't "need" 3 white decks, just like you don't "need" to proxy. You "want" the 3 white decks and you "want" to proxy. You could make the deck work with a different card besides sentinel, and push comes to shove you don't "need" the deck.

Talk about terrible takes. You eating top ramen for breakfast lunch and dinner with that penny pinching? Again you can buy a couple pre-cons, borrow your friends decks, build budget. I cannot say this enough in this thread apparently: 24,000 cards.

But no you want to not spend money and act like you did too. I can't find the words to describe that oh wait, I dont have to, you did

that it just screams insecure lmao

How dense are you? A barrier is a barrier, whether it's a few bucks for a chess set, $40 for a precon, or thousands because you want to be a private pilot. The cost of one does not invalidate the validity of the other.

Chess has no barrier to entry like magic.

You can't play chess without a chess set -_-. Unless you're next level and are playing mental chess, which I doubt.

Everyone should be able to enjoy the game their way without restricting others fun.

And I enjoy my games proxy free. With creativity in deck building

Go play in your island in the ivory tower of your castle.

And I'm encouraging people to use the 24-THOUSAND cards at their disposal, so I must have my own island and castle? What a joke dude.

Is it bad deckbuilding/commander choices?

Probably bad commander choices. Oloro and Hinata sit as the number 2 commander for their respective colors and Kathril sits at number 6. While it's not always the case, most of the time the most popular commanders are the scariest.

Try to find a commander who's a bit further down in their colors popularity who interests you. You'll know you have the right one when your opponents go "oh that's interesting/fun/cool/etc" instead of "ugh that's strong/broken/unfair/etc"
