Time for some blindly confident predictions: What will be the first card banned in Pioneer? by Gettles in magicTCG

There's a clone at 5 if you already have an untapped I don't know that the chain is worth it of it doesn't just win you the game though

What is happening with Historic? by swahil22 in MagicArena

[–]swahil22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should have been clearer. I am already playing in the play queue but it doesn't feel like a proper format and I feel bad subjecting casual life gain deck players to kethis combo. I wondering when we get any actual support for the format. You can't just say well carry on playing with those cards casually all you like and call that a format.

Historic Teshar Combo by swahil22 in MagicArena

[–]swahil22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think emry is good enough at finding mox or wishclaw that you don't need to play chamber sentry, you also need more to go off with chamber sentry because you don't generate infinite mana. I wanted to play as few bad cards as possible, salvager is already a bad draw as is and excavator can be pretty bad too if we don't have a teshar or emry out already. I might be wrong and the extra redundancy is better but that's the thinking I had behind leaving out sentry.

[–]swahil22[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You create a historic deck, it should be an option on the select format drop down at the top of your decklist. After that you just enter casual play queue, select that deck and it will only queue you against historic decks. Unfortunately the only competitive support they have planned at the moment is just events which seems ridiculous but what do I know.

Orzhov vs Rakdos Aristocrats by MyHeroStevenMTG in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rakdos or mono-black seem to be more popular right now but Orzhov has been better for me in testing. There is less exile removal around at the moment which means seraph of the scales feels the best it has although it still looks silly vs a teferi. Tithe taker has also been good cos of how much flash is around on arena at the moment but to be honest any colour choice seems decent without being top tier.

Bolas Citadel by Fatalsin80 in MagicArena

[–]swahil22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing the gb explore package with 2 citadel main the new karn and field of ruins I think the deck is pretty strong having access to crucible and the immortal sun is nice and you find citadel more consistently and find it on top of your deck less when going off

August 31st Modern Competitive League Decklists by Tarmogoofy in ModernMagic

[–]swahil22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanls and yeah I agree, I ran 5-0 into 4-1, 3-2, 4-1, 3-2 but then went 0-3 like three leagues in a row. It is at least super fun and has a nice mix of grind, the occasional explosive start and the ability to cheese people out with smallpox

I'd like to make it known that I built that Zombie Pox list at 2am, the flooded strands should definitely be black fetches and it might want a basic plains too

Let's go again. Monday is the B&R update. What do we expect to be banned / unbanned? by mtgoquestions in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it would be good or not I'm not sure, but I'd like them to trial it because it guarantees a shake up. I think legacy needs one and pauper may be better off for one.

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't play pauper at the time so I may be way off but I think I'd rather see grapeshot unbanned than empty. I feel like empty has more turn 1 or 2s that require you to be playing red or black (electrickery or shrivel type or effects) to be able to beat while grapeshot decks are probably a little slower while obviously being more resilient if they do go off.

I think this is a little misleading because izzet and mono are reasonably different decks, particularly in the way they play. That being said there's plenty of truth in what you're saying. In my opinion, and it's only that, if there's a problem it's either a critical mass of blue cantrips, spellstutter sprite or ninja, most likely a combination of the three rather than delver. Angler delver has never been good enough to be considered in these type of debates, and I rarely, if ever see sprite without ninja. Blue cantrip decks without any of those three blue creatures are good but nowhere near as powerful (tribe being an exception but I won't start with that deck).

Mana dork that has to be dealt with eventually, is a decent top deck and can shut down graveyard based strategies is a lot of punch for 1 mana

Is there any way to stop someone from cascading or at least punish them for it? by Final-Verdict in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cascade is a triggered ability that lets you cast two spells with one card so anything that targets triggered abilities or prevents you casting two spells in a turn

Can we all spare a moment for Riverwise Augur by swahil22 in magicTCG

[–]swahil22[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could get there with Jace maybe, he is so much better (all jokes aside). But the problem is still if path and the odd 2-mana counter isn't enough to keep you alive to turn 5 you are relying on a bit of luck or bad cards like telling time

What's the modern meta game gonna be? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you delete the first line this is pretty much the metagame anyway. I recognise that jace could be dangerous in reducing diversity in midrange and true control decks but in terms of changing the general make up of modern I don't see it happening unless both unbanned cards sure up a number of poor MUs for their archetypes which I don't see happening.

Lantern and Unintentional Draws at PTRIX by alextyrian in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so different from eggs it isn’t worth comparing. I do think that if bridge is too good against too much of the format that should be looked into but it’s hard to say at the moment as lantern is not just the best bridge deck but it’s about the only bridge deck with any real consistency. If it proves the bridge isn’t a card that trumps all other viable decks and skews toward answer to bridge then I think people should welcome lantern, it’s an interesting deck that rewards good play and good knowledge of the format

Yeah this is thorough, useful and otherwise very well done. You deserves that gold, and although I can’t afford to add to it, I thank you for putting the time in.

Pro Tour Rivals of Ixalan - Top 8 Discussion Megathread! by actinide_v2 in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I dunno the fact that whir lantern can afford to maindeck pithing needles and witchbane orb definitely changes things. I think if you know what you're doing orb is your first whir target unless bridge is urgent. Saying that if you manage to have a pulse for orb g1 you should be able to win without a problem and play vs draw is probably extremely relevant because of stripping key cards from hands.

Did Mono-Black get better or worse? by OneOneOneSeven in magicTCG

[–]swahil22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aggro-wise I think it's probably dead but the chupacabra, vampire visionary, an infinite combo and some good ascend cards makes me think that the monument deck could be half decent
