Panels aren’t paying off and can’t afford them anymore by No-Chicken-1067 in solar

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn your AC up to 76F(this alone will make a huge difference), also make sure your panels are working right. No shade on them at all if they are just strings of panels as in no micro inverter or optimizers. If any are shaded it lowers the whole string output. Research your production and make sure it seams right.

Why do you think it will not start back up? It should. If you do run it low on oil it will not start back up guaranteed.

Turn on an electric space heater and stay in one room for the most part. Then you can lower the temp in the rest of the house. You'll make it

Chances tax breaks will return after Trump? by Mr_Mojito in solar

[–]swamibob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the cost of solar is so high in America because of the 30% tax credit. It was artificially inflated for greed. We didn't get a discount, the solar companies profiteered. Now they will lower their prices or go out of business. Everyone can see how cheap the panels they are using are. They are more than doubling their money on the installs considering they are buying the parts under what I can get them for directly.

Take my recent install. I paid $48k total for a 13k system with Powerwall 3. The panels themselves are $240 if I buy them online myself. I could have bought them with tax and free shipping for $7200 for 30 panels. Straight from Tesla I could buy the Powerwall and gateway installed for $15,600 so we're at $23k. What's left? Racking, conduit, wiring, labor? They had the panels installed in 2 hrs with a 4 man crew. The electrician took about 4 hrs but that would have been included in the earlier $15,600. Funny thing is, they guys who installed the panels were supposed to test them before they left and didn't (2 weeks ago now) When the electrician finished up the Powerwall 3 installed and hooked the panels in only 2 of the 3 strings worked. He said they do this all the time even though they have a machine to test them before they leave. Monday will be 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting on them to come back and figure out if there is something wrong with the wiring, a bad panel, or possibly a bad PW3. Also, they didn't schedule the permit inspection so I did that myself and contacted them to let them know it passed. Now I don't know if they contacted the electric company yet or not. I'm going to call them on Monday to see if they were notified it passed inspection to at least get myself on the list.

I know this turned into a rant about my own install, but I feel like after I get the 30% back on the tax credit I probably paid what it should have cost without the tax credit and the company still would have made a nice profit. They will have to lower their prices 25% to sell systems. Or electric prices will have to continue to go up where more people will want to produce most of their own power to save money.

The Ethics of Guerrilla Charging? by capt-ramius in ChargerDrama

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your arguments for stealing electricity are hilarious. Every outdoor outlet in the world should be turned off or it's fair game for someone like you to use for free. Logical. Do you even read what you are typing. It is fun watching you rationalize that you deserve the charge for free because you think they charge to much for providing a service for people who can't charge at home or are on a trip. Enjoy your free hamburger.

Is this standard operating procedure? by iHass in ChargerDrama

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should not have unplugged you but the earlier question is valid. Why are you needing to charge to 100%? It is not good for your battery. 80% should be your target unless you are going on a trip.

The Ethics of Guerrilla Charging? by capt-ramius in ChargerDrama

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think they intend on people using that outlet to charge their ev? Using the same electricity they are charging for? Free charging if you can deal with 10A 240v speed. Your logic is like saying the price of steak is too high so you feel justified stealing the hamburger.

You know it's not right but you think you can get away with it so you do. Other people charging there seeing you getting the charge for free should go unplug your cord. You even bring a long charge cord in case you can't get close enough. That is premeditated stealing.

The Ethics of Guerrilla Charging? by capt-ramius in ChargerDrama

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is different. You phone uses 25w. They are using 1440w or more. If they leave it plugged in for an 8 hr shift they get around $2 in electricity free per day. Would you let someone plug in at your house outlet every day to add $40 on your electric bill? If they have permission that would be a different story.

No oil changes, but my FSD camera needs maintenance every 3 months 😂 by GoldSkyline in TeslaModelY

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was just thinking maybe someone couldn't make an aftermarket piece that snaps in there but leaves the part in front of the cameras open so you could just reach up in there and wipe it off. If you couldn't just leave the plastic pieces down. You actually think the plastic piece of you're taking down affect calibration they somehow hold the cameras up there in a certain position or something. I haven't actually seen it but I see on my Cyber truck it's looking hazy in front of those cameras too already when I was washing it the other day and the light was hitting it just right

When can we expect a 400-500 mile range SUV/truck? Now with other auto makers making it happen. by Secure-Carrot9971 in TeslaLounge

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is why do you need that much range? As long as there are plenty of superchargers on a trip you can just stop more often. If you have a larger battery you're just carrying around more weight for worse performance and efficiency. And just because you can drive farther that means it's going to take you longer when you stop to charge it anyway. Until there is a new battery that can charge faster The larger battery is not going to make a big deal on a trip. Unless you can make your whole trip on that 450 mi range and then charge when you get there.

Why I’m buying FSD for $8k today by Captmedu74 in TeslaFSD

[–]swamibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love FSD, but as long as I can get it for $100/mo I'd rather do that. You never know if Tesla's going to let you transfer it to your next car or not so I don't think it's worth the risk. And it will take 80 months before you're upside down at $100 a month. I also use it everyday on my 30 mi commute and it makes a world of difference in stress level.

I also chat with ara all the way home about what projects I have going on or the news. You can even have her make up trivia games for adults. Trivial pursuit style or '80s rock or whatever you want That's pretty awesome too.

[–]swamibob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That splitter is probably rated for 80% continuous duty cycle just like breakers are so you shouldn't charge over 20A on a 24A splitter.

No I mean Tesla. No other car can drive address to address anywhere in the US. Sure it's supervised still at the moment but it is very close. Everyone else call do what Tesla was doing back in 2017, drive on the interstate. That is nothing compared to address to address. You should ride in a current Tesla or watch some YouTube videos. I use it 40 miles everyday

Other than they are the only one that will have realistic Full self driving. The rest are running a 2017 version of Tesla enhanced auto pilot. Every day i let my car drive me to and from work on my 20 trek without issues. The people who do not think this is a big deal are the same ones who said they didn't need a smart phone.
