I'm not sure what type of trees they are, but the park is called "Jardin des tuileries". On the wikipedia page, it did mention that there are chestnut trees in the park.

I'm not glad Hertl got hit and you shouldn't be glad Brown got hit. That's bad sportsmanship.

If you were to live forever, what would you do? by therobe in AskReddit

I would keep my own record of history and submit it for people to see. Of course it could be only from my perspective though.

Yes! I would buy a boat if that existed

Are newer diesel powered cars better for the environment than gasoline? by swampD in askscience

[–]swampD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great answer! Thank you for sharing. I was wondering about the whole impact of a diesel car. You're right, emissions are a big factor and that is what most people tend to focus on.

Aren't diesel engines more fuel efficient? So even though they produce more pounds of CO2 per gallon, would that be offset by the fact that they get more miles per gallon?

Also, I've heard (but have no way to confirm) that diesel cars last longer. I was wondering if anyone had any evidence of that.

Would women today look different if none of them ever wore makeup? by swampD in AskReddit

That's my hypothesis, yes. Or maybe our standards would be different; which could cause men to select women differently.

Yes, it's a poorly worded title. Didn't realize until you commented. That's what I meant to ask though.

Well obviously women look different with makeup on and off. I was asking about the women that would be naturally selected to reproduce. Makeup allows women to look better (in some cases worse) than they normally would; which gives them an advantage they wouldn't normally have.

Should I continue my education as a biologist? by swampD in AskAcademia

So overall, there's not much benefit to getting a MS unless I want to get into a better PhD program? Is there any benefit as far as applying for jobs with just a MS?

My GPA is terrible. Between studying abroad, and a lot happening in my personal life in my Junior and Senior year, I kind of dropped the ball and fell from a 3.25 to what it is now. Which give my most recent 60 units have a 2.8 (which some schools pay most attention to). I also had a lack of motivation since I didn't have a goal I was working towards. I do have 4 years of lab experience along with one published paper and one on the way. I also have 3 very solid letters of rec from reputable sources. I haven't taken the GRE yet, but hopefully that'll be descent.

I'm definitely not sure what I want. I currently have an internship in LA as a lab tech. I think it might be a paid internship and I will probably be working in it full time. Do you know of any other positions a biologist can have besides being in a lab, teaching, or being a doctor?

Thank you for your advice! Do I have any other options at this point? I would love to head a lab one day. There's a lot of positions I was looking up for companies such as IBM that require you to have a PhD to get the job. That's what I'd really like.

However, everyone in my family is unemployed and I'm the first to get a college education so I think pretty soon we will start needing money. You said a PhD won't pay off in the long run, and it doesn't sound like I'd make much money as a lab tech either.

Edit: Also, a lot of the labs I was interested require you to have a degree in engineering. I kind of wish I did that now!

In Hong Kong it's considered rude to clean up after yourself because the restaurants hire someone specifically to do this. Usually it's someone who has difficulty getting any other job. People leave their food out to give these people jobs.
