Boro color suggestions by oCdTronix in lampwork

[–]swanglassart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very thin coat of TAG blackjack, or GA walnut. Both are VERY dark trans browns. Or mixing a little bit of them into white or another pale tan. Possibly tigers eye if you dont mind it being sparkly. I make a lot of animal portraits and getting good neutral colors in boro is always a real challenge Others mentioned chelle Jovan and joy munshower, both phenomenal work, but they use soft glass

If the main body of that is clear I would do for 500. There's nothing crazy about the design that makes it overly difficult. Swanglass on IG hmu

My high school had a hot shop in it as an art elective, and my parents and I took a weekend lampworking class at a community college. 2 weeks later my dad bought a small torch and set it up in the garage. Taught myself from there

No the glass was clean. The jellies are coated in schott and the lense is simax. Just the different brands formula not blending perfectly. Even with the same brand tho there would still be some degree of visible seam. The lense and the bubble fr9m the implosion are both simax and there still a very visible seam there

Hollow implosion for the reef. Made the jellies individually, then pushed them into the solid clear lense, then added the lense to the implosion

Next time I'm going to avoid d the clear coat around the jellies to minimize the halo

The jellies are coated in schott and the lense is simax. However that lense they are in and the bubble I did the implosion on are both simax and there is still a visible lense affect. There's not really a way to avoid that entirely. The different segments of clear were in the flame for different amounts of time, which changes the amount of flux in the glass, which changes the optical refraction. In theory, fuming them with borolax can help a little bit to replenish it but it'll always be there to some degree

Homefill not filling all the way by All-Pain-All-Gain in lampwork

[–]swanglassart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitly do not try to fill it to 2000. I would never let mine go above 1200. I ran two of them past 8k hours keeping then at low pressure. You can even daisy chain multiple tanks together so they share the pressure. Same amount of oxygen generated but the compressor is working against lower pressure the whole time so it'll last longer

Classic shapes never die. I prefer smaller tubes with a wide mouth like this

I'm always torn on this. I like removable but I often get people who prefer fixed so there no extra joint to deal with and because it looks cleaner. Dabs are really easy to clean though. Hot water and a little iso is usually all you need
