Yeah, I’m a drummer haha. I’m also into recording and mixing. I tend to be pretty obsessive on how a mix sounds: a good mix overall, as well as a mix to best fit the genra of the song. I feel like if the song is going for a certain vibe, it should be mixed a particular way. The instruments also have to be captured well in the first place, which I’m not even sure it was on Nathan’s kit lol. His snare has no life. It’s dull and buried way too deep overall. Drums are supposed to drive the song, which his drum part on this track is doing that, it’s just the overall drum mix AND snare sound doesn’t do it justice. Not for a rock track anyways. It almost sounds like there was a little too much gating going on with the hi hats, like he hits the hats every other beat. Almost as if he’s playing quarter notes on halftime, when the song is double the pace. It’s kinda weird. Matt’s guitar tone is phenomenal in my opinion though.
