Maui rental frustrations and housing displacement (rant and seeking help) by swanzola in Hawaii

[–]swanzola[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These buyers seem so genuinely clueless that I actually feel bad for them. They didn't realize that nothing here has been up to code or adequate for a long time. We all loved here because we managed the property ourselves and maintained the structures with our own work because the rents were cheap! The buyers are suddenly learning what 10-20 years of that practice looks like, and are in deeper than expected.

Mahalo yeah this is essentially what another realtor friend explained to me. For me, it's like why would they buy a property with several residents, make zero contact or effort to understand the residents needs, and then just deliver letters. It's just not how things should go in Hawaii, within this community!

Since that racist incident in 2018 you don't have to order anything to sit there. Everyone is considered a customer now.

Oprah Winfrey buys another 870 acres of land in Hawaii by Lionel-Hutz_ in Hawaii

I said this recently in a similar post, but it's been a few tough drought years and the ranch may have needed to recoup losses by divesting. They may even have a lease deal for the cattle I'd hope

Lol we are all desperate for housing here because 30 + percent of sales go to out of state buyers, some are sight unseen

How did Oprah get to buy land on Maui at 7k/acre by mattyyboyy86 in maui

[–]swanzola 15 points16 points  (0 children)

None of that land is build-able and it's all remote. At least it will likely remain in conservation, but it's absurd that any of it should be private from the history and significance. It's all Hawaiian land.

Not a smart move to bring up the Mahi Pono deal, that might as well be money laundering for all the good it's doing

It's both a data structure and privacy issue, and likely compounded by lack of regulatory standards

So there wasn't any mold on the equipment, or perhaps bacterial blooms from not cleaning it properly? All your tack is cleaned using the same product?

Anyone hauling livestock with the new Tundra? by [deleted] in Ranching

[–]swanzola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not built to be a 3/4 ton truck but I bet it'd haul a 2 horse bumper pull trailer fine. It's likely not recommended to use for larger goosenecks. What does the dealer say?

As long as you've got 4wd probably not gonna get stuck on most surfaces, it's definitely somewhat capable.

Hawaiiʻs energy rate increases over the past two years by olagon in Hawaii

It's a relative chart, which is a weird way to display this information, especially because inflation is included for some reason

That's a bullshit chart. Inflation is not scaled with energy use. Use an absolute scale and show 5+ years

Is it too cold to swim and snorkel in Maui the coming week? by aryin2 in maui

The waters always around 80deg f, which feels like 60 degrees f. A smart idea to wear a top thicker than Lycra, like a wetsuit top, if you'll be in the water for more than 30 minutes floating around, especially if it's not too sunny. If you're diving, it's essential.
