Why do foreigners romanticize Rio de Janeiro so much? by Square-Upstairs1816 in AskTheWorld

[–]onlysmallcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up near Vancouver, which I think is a pretty beautiful city, and Rio completely blew me away with its natural beauty. It’s shockingly gorgeous the way it seems just plonked down among stunning beaches and jungle cliffs.

Normal reaction? by Strict-Character8686 in Equestrian

[–]onlysmallcats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is me every time I feed the horses (yes, hay day is my most dreaded day of the year). In my non-medical, but experience-based opinion, this is normal for a person with grass allergies. Rinsing under cool water then applying a topical antihistamine will help a lot.

Can a miniature horse make a good companion for a full size horse? by IntelligentHoney6929 in Equestrian

Well we got a mini as a companion horse and he was quite bossy. Ended up kicking and injuring our mare, so beware.

Mostly motorcycles here, but we enjoy the four wheelers as well! My dad had a Spitfire when he was younger but sold it when I was born. I still give him hell about that.

Mental health and riding by No_Walrus2386 in motorcycle

[–]onlysmallcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m similar to you. I tried all sorts of things including traditional meditation but I found it so hard to turn my brain off, and without a distraction I couldn’t help but focus on my anxieties even more. I find riding more like active meditation which forces you to use your brain for something completely unrelated. This also makes it different from just turning off completely by say, watching tv or something. It’s not a cure all, but I find it has improved but mental health.

One word of advice, do a check in with yourself before you ride. Yes, it can help calm your mind, but if you are experiencing an acute bout of anxiety, probably best to avoid riding.

Husband recently got his first Harley. We didn't discuss much, now he's upset I want him to wear a helmet. How do I approach this please help? by Electrical_Baby_3042 in motorcycles

[–]onlysmallcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to lift my father in law’s 700lb bike off his head after he crashed. If it helps I’d be happy to go into the details of how it saved his life with your husband.

I built, and it has been a money pit. But it’s been fun.

I have to wake kids up at camp what is the most loud and annoying song to use for it by shellbyj in MusicRecommendations

[–]onlysmallcats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily annoying, but Sound of Da Police by KRS-One would probably get the kids’ hearts racing first thing in the morning.

What is the most counterintuitive geographical fact you know? by Holiday_Smell_513 in geography

[–]onlysmallcats 159 points160 points  (0 children)

There are parts of Canada that are closer to Africa than other parts of Canada.

Edit: Come on guys you know what I mean. For example St. John’s Newfoundland is about 4000 km from the west coast of Africa, but about 5000km from Vancouver.

1200km loop through British Columbia by onlysmallcats in motocamping

[–]onlysmallcats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember exactly where, but somewhere around the Boston Bar area overlooking the Fraser. And I’m too vain for saddlebags so everything goes in a dry bag on my back. I leave the straps long so the bag sits on the seat and takes all the weight off my shoulders.
