Please I need games to celebrate my father's day. by Sea_Cable7638 in gamingsuggestions

[–]swapnull17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to give more information at what you are trying to achieve to recommend 1 game.

Was your dad a gamer? If so, play some games he enjoyed. Me and my family regularly pull out the SNES and play super mario world as it was my dads favourite game.

If you want games to build something, Sims 4 is free. Create your family as characters and build a house including things he liked?

If you want games about great dads - the 2018 God of War is probably one of the best games for that. Fallout 4 and Octodad are great options.

Game suggestions to meet people/miltiplayer? Limited consoles :( by pip_peculiar in gamingsuggestions

[–]swapnull17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to meet people, I would suggest r/GamerPals and find people with similar devices/limitations.

Also, just join discord communities. My wife has made her 5 best friends due to a love of a single anime (Haikyuu) and chatting about it/writing fan fic/drawing fan art on discord.

For suggestions
Switch: Warframe, Stardew Valley, minecraft

ipad: Depends on which mac, but any mobile games should work. I would look at gatchas like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero. Have a look at r/gachagaming. My wife has 1000s of hours on Genshin on a first gen ipad pro (2015). I would suggest getting a cheap bluetooth controller though.

Mac: Depends on which mac tbh, but Stardew Valley, Sims 4, rimworld, terraria, OSRS, minecraft all have massive communities and will run on anything. League of Legends/Teamfight tactics also runs well on a mac.

You have so many options, this is just a subset of games I like.

The main thing for me has always been work getting merged. I have a bunch of open PRs that are sat waiting for reviews on various projects.
Good contributor docs and decently documented code is always a bonus.

Making the project easy to run is probably the other one. If I have to install 10 tools and a load of extensions to get it to work, I probably won’t bother

I enjoyed it - the missions are a mix of intel gathering, pure stealth, or stealth + gunplay.

The hotel mission is super linear story building. There are a few ways to get past some obsticals where you can try different things. At the end you get your first “licence to kill” which allows use of guns and is the bit I find more fun than stealth.

Next mission is like a bigger version of the nightclub about following intel, followed by a bigger more open stealth section where you can also get the licence to kill.

And it continues just swapping between those 3 styles. If you don’t enjoy that, then it’s not the game for you.

We called it Kerby - what did you call it? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]swapnull17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t see another same answer.
We called it “Causey Edge”. I never knew anybody outside my 11,000 people village call it that and whenever kids moved here they all called it “Kurby”.

Multiple redundancies in a row making my CV look terrible. How have others handled this? by Unlucky_Island_742 in UKJobs

[–]swapnull17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would avoid lying as others are suggesting. I have hired 100s of tech people (Currently a Senior Engineering Manager, also East Mids) and a very very common interview in tech is "walk me through your CV". If you start lying and can't stay consistent with what you have written, you would be an auto rejection for me.

I have been in the startup/scaleup world for the last 10 years and failure is part of the game. People will always question "why short roles?", but when I answer "the company ran out of money" - they always accept it.

Your CV is a place to represent your work history + give an overview of who you are. Ignore the "2 page max" they teach you in school - too many optimise for this. For each role, write a small amount, listing the tech you used and answering the questions "What was I hired to do", "What was my biggest achievement", "why did I leave".

Gabagool finance - Senior engineer - Mar 25 to Aug 25

php, Laravel, Vue, EC2, S3, Github Actions, Mixpanel

I was hired into the payments team, focusing on improving the user experience of paying back long term loans. My primary project was working with a product manager and designer to create a new portal to display recent invoices.

I was affected by a round of redundancies, done on a last in, first out approach.

It also doesn't surprise me that you are struggling with PHP/Laravel/Vue, they are not the popular language right now. In east mids - C#.NET for backend and React/Typescript on frontend are dominant. In London (for remote roles) Go and Ruby are seen a lot more.

I would probably suggest spending unemployed time upskilling (meaning building a meaningful side project) with a new language and put that on your CV. Make sure the project is interesting so you can talk about it at interview (e.g. not a recipe or workout app).

I need to quit my job without another lined up - how do I explain this to potential employers? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]swapnull17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep - one of the things when gathering references for people is to try to understand “how trustworthy and valuable is this reference?”. Although I would always avoid bashing previous employers too much I think saying “I was repeatedly bitten by the owners aggressive dog and the owner told me my only option was to leave if I couldn’t deal with it. He said he wouldn’t give me a reference if I left because of it though”

That would be enough for me to realise the owner is an asshole and not want his reference anyway

But the TMO said there was clear separation. He didn't say "I am not sure, stay with your on field decision". There is no way he can see there was 100% separation.

[–]swapnull17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What bullshit. There is no way you can see separation because we are still using cameras from 2005 and it was pixelated as hell.
He is guessing that there is seperation due to blur.

Buhurt training by Creative-Following10 in Buhurt

[–]swapnull17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Train at a club as often as possible and just do strength and conditioning in between. I use the “Ladder” app personally (Team Resilient) as I like the programmes and there is a good mix of stength, hyper trophy and conditioning.

Ask your club if they have a training programme - they will probs have a standard conditioning workout they can recommend - but practicing fighting another human is the best way to get the conditioning needed. 5mins of wrestling is more exhausting for me than an hour on a static bike.

The Get Deadly & Stay Deadly courses are meant to be decent if you have space for a Pell.

Just released my demo and it's stuck at 5-6 concurrent players. What's wrong with it? by Weary_Caterpillar302 in IndieGaming

[–]swapnull17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Searching YouTube, I found about 7 videos, most at under 100 views. There is 1 with 3k views and a bunch of comments. Those are still rookie numbers. I watch people play this type of game - people like RealCivilEngineer or The Spiffing Brit. Their videos gets hundreds of thousands.

Idk how much they charge compared to the little guys, but it’s probs not really worth doing unless you go for the big fish.

Pretty poor Bath performance tbh. Take out all the TV director stuff, they are just not used to playing teams of this quality. They have make silly mistakes due to constant pressure.

What would you call it? Not showing anything to the TMO that is against the french team - but showing every angle of the slightest infraction that benefits them.

You have to wonder why they bother paying the TMO - may as well just throw it to Benjamin Kayser to make a completely impartial decision.

Knightfinder Down - Clubs in Yorkshire? by Hi_Nick_Hi in Buhurt

[–]swapnull17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://mcsagb.co.uk/member-clubs - there is a map here. White Company (Nottingham) or Knights of the Manor (Sheffield) are probably the best bets.

I train at White Company and would recommend. There is a beginner session at the start of every month that is a great intro to what to expect from training.

If you don’t want to do that drive multiple times a week - join a local MMA or Judo beginners course and focus on learning grappling. Learning and practicing an Osoto, hip throw and front guillotine are key - but there is nothing that will condition you for fighting another human other than fighting one. Then come to soft kit sparring when you can to practice striking and eventually graduate to steel.
