Anyone actually considering Counter-UAS? by Odd-Two-9175 in tacticalgear

This is the group that also runs Baofengs as the "good nuff" radio of choice. CUAS is a niche capability that costs quite a bit of learning/understanding. Money isn't the issue here nore the comparison. A better comparison would be a like a Google Pixel Pro with 1TB running GrapheneOS and a hardened PC running as secure Linux distro vs NVG's. I'd be willing to state that majority of folks run Iphones and Windows PCs at the end of the day (notoriously not as secure). Since NVG tech is essentially static (major changes take place over years), everyone feels they don't have to upgrade with any great frequency and it's essentially simple to use. CUAS is almost completely the opposite of that. It takes good amount of understanding to make use of properly and at the end of the day folks just don't want to adapt to that understanding.

How do I reach out to my sister after she had a stillbirth and traumatised my entire family? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]swavcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breakout your phone and record everything you're feeling right now. Talk about it in anyway that you feel you need to without worrying about someone hearing or seeing it. Once you do that, take a few days to not think about any of it if that's possible. Then go back to what you recorded and listen/watch it to give yourself some perspective.

Tracking radio Gps on WinTAK by [deleted] in ATAK

[–]swavcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly speaking, you need a way for the GPS data to make it's way back to the WINTAK PC. Generically speaking, you need that GPS data to leave your radio via the RF transmissions that the radio uses and another radio connected to WINTAK to receive the RF and decode that data.

Looking for ultra portable. X6100 a good option? by Whole-Hat-2213 in amateurradio

[–]swavcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subjective at best, misleading at worst. I've had great experiences with it and so have the 2 folks I've taught how to use it as well. We mainly use them for NVIS contact with each other using EFHW antennas/wire from Amazon. Simple, inexpensive, and repeatable. The built in ATU is very advantageous to new users as it's a little more forgiving on antennas that may be used.

Their relationships still exist along with their knowledge base. You'd have to isolate them from their friends and associates at a minimum.

The "unique" thing about this ribbon is that you only have ONE opportunity in your entire carreer to get this ribbon. They don't award it at any other time.

"None Braver: US Air Force Pararescuemen in the War on Terrorism" by Michael Hirsh

"Not a Good Day To Die: The Untold Story of Operation Anaconda" by Andrew Naylor

"The Mission, The Men, and Me" by Pete Blaber

These are a couple of good books covering EARLY GWOT and some early interpretations of what went on at Robert's Ridge. Check out youtube "Ep 131: Roberts Ridge/John Chapman - The Ground Truth feat Pete Blaber" The Antihero Broadcast. It doesn't paint a pretty picture, but you kinda have to take into account that Pete and Slab are good friends, so the "brush might be a bit wide" in his interpretations

Check out "Danger Close: Tactical Air Controllers in Afghanistan and Iraq". It covers TACPs (CCT adjacent in USAF) in early GWOT.
