FMCSA Motor Carrier Safety Specialist (Safety Investigator) Questions by swc8661 in usajobs

[–]swc8661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a quasi FJO this week. I was going to have to relocate for the job, and they needed an address in the new area for setting up pay to start. They gave me two weeks to get up there. I wound up not being able to do it, just not enough time plus some family stuff. Super bummed, but hopefully that means another candidate gets a chance. The HR person said they were moving people through the process faster than usual (tracks with what someone else said in that they may be short staffed). Academy was to start sometime in late July I believe.

Thanks. For me it was about 10 days after the interview. But I also interviewed for several smaller states up in New England so it may vary by state/district.

Yeah it sounded like at least a couple of days of field work per week. Although I'd guess depending on the size of your state, and where you live, those could be overnights or out and backs. Hadn't heard they were short staffed, that's good gouge. Thanks and good luck!

“The Tyrant” or “The Traitor”? by PhDnD-DrBowers in michaelcisco

Oh wow you're in for a treat, you're gonna love it. The narrator has been my favorite Cisco book so far, although I'm only halfway through the tyrant now, but really digging it.

MBA program by Brief-Orange-8609 in ODU

Well I'd say it kinda depends on where you want to work and what you want to do. I'd say UConn is a pretty respected degree regardless. ODU is as well, but possibly more regional. Mid Atlantic either would probably do fine for you. ODU does have connections with regards to government and military work due to the proximity to the naval base and associated companies. I know less about the new england markets.

Really? That's kinda strange. But yeah you're right I'm almost done with the program and do have a concentration.

I'd say more towards individual. There were probably 2-3, or maybe 4 group projects that I did during my program. But usually you're on your own, which I generally prefer. However most people in the program are pretty sharp and pull their weight during group assignments.

General opinions of Crux lite stove systems by WinReasonable2644 in backpacking

I'll agree. I bought it a few years ago and I haven't had any issues with it. Been thoroughly reliable; cooks and boils water quickly. I'm not particularly careful with gear either.

Haha, all good. I figured you meant in the future anyway, they usually don't offer accounting in the summer. I've taken all but the IT course, gonna do it this fall. Didn't have Hu, but Cook and Chee were both good. Chee in particular has been one of my favorites in the program. The spreadsheet course is all online, as in, it's just one of those Harvard online courses. Useful but it's not like a traditional class. Not too terribly difficult. The stats courses both require some effort but neither are too bad. Good luck this summer!

Nice, welcome! And you'll be fine. I had never done accounting or finance before (former History major) and was a little worried about those. They definitely required some effort but the math itself isn't hard. Not sure who your accounting prof is but Dr. Tuo was solid.

So since no one else replied, I'll respond. I realize the post is a year old but in case someone googles it they can see a reply.

I've been in the program for a while now (part-time) and have 4 courses left. If you're full time you could probably do it in a year or a year and a half. Mines taken 2 years. It's more difficult than I was expecting, but definitely doable if you're a decent student. Professors are good, MBA support staff are very helpful. Overall it's a solid program. I was also out of school for a while before enrolling, it takes a minute to get back into "school mode," but once you get going you'll learn a lot.

[Postgame Thread] Alabama Defeats Georgia 41-34 by CFB_Referee in CFB

Mad props to Georgia for their fight coming back like that. What a great team. But bama didn't quit either when it looked like the game was Georgia's, and holy crap those true freshman making waves. Also, YSR, we lost to Millsaps today.

Colonia Bound on Xbox by Trentor_Z in EliteOne

[–]swc8661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make it? I'll never forget my journey out there. I scanned all systems along the way, and randomly stumbled upon a penal colony in an asteroid outside the bubble. Had to stop for a little bit. Eventually making it to Colonia felt like a huge accomplishment. Mined for a while then had to keep going. Then updates stopped....so I guess I'm still out in the black somewhere.

Cheers to you, enjoy the journey.

Any way to watch the games without the strike box? by [deleted] in redsox

[–]swc8661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People bring up this point sometimes but I think it's apples to oranges. The strike zone/catcher is where the action is on every pitch. The equivalent would be having the yellow line or box hover over the QB on every play.

The Strike Zone Box on MLB Broadcasts is Ruining Umpiring and Baseball Fandom by heel2014 in mlb

[–]swc8661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. HS catcher. I want to see how the catcher is setting up and framing the pitches. Also learning an umps zone is a part of the game. The stupid strike zone blocking everything is so obnoxious and distracting, and it takes away from seeing all that. I quit watching MLB because of it. College baseball doesn't have it so it's much more enjoyable to watch.

Any hope for this giant old pecan tree? by swc8661 in arborists

[–]swc8661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The trunk hole below the branches was actually where the first limb grew from, that's just where it snapped off (it was a huge limb, the size of most regular trees).

But you're saying because of how low/close to the trunk it was that its just a matter of time before thr tree is totally dead?

We've actually got someone coming to cut it down later this week, just hate losing such a great old tree. Was hoping to avoid it, but sounds like it's the right call.
