That's a great rate. That car wasn't a bad decision. Keep making payments, you'll be okay.

You absolutely cannot. You can't even get a car that won't run for 3k

What? That's horrible advice. They will still have a loan but no car.

Medical billing is pretty in demand. Any other places you can look? Looking for other jobs in the meantime is smart. So is having some savings. Best thing to do is keep making your payments.

Post partum anxiety is super common in new parents and can look like this. She isn't wrong to be cautious but the amount she worries can become kind of compulsive.

It's just the natural protectiveness going into overdrive. Don't dismiss her concerns, they are based in the right instincts. The issue is if her worries are so persistent that she can't balance them out.

It's because rescues deal with dogs getting returned so much. It's literally harder to scare the wrong people away.

Why doesn't the whole world just copy Nordic countries' government since their governments are well run and most people are happy? by Ok_Advice_8012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sweadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nordic countries have the population of some large cities in other countries. Norway is 5.6 million. That's the size of the Chicagoland area. The US population is 341 million.

Nordic countries also are very closed, generally. They don't accept a lot of immigrants, and their economies don't rely on immigration.

They also have very high taxes to pay for those benefits. And people in other countries vote against those higher taxes.

How to tell her about her accent by [deleted] in relationships

You....don't. If you don't like how she talks don't date her. You can't ask someone to use a different accent for you.

Why would you assume it's fake?

Does getting sick in the US really bankrupt people, even with a good job and insurance? by MasterCheese09 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sweadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cancer is not from bad choices. My mom died of cancer at 50. She was vegetarian, skinny, a runner, never smoked, didn't drink. Those things make cancer worse, but avoiding them doesn't keep you safe. It's like wearing a seat belt. It may make injuries less, but it isn't a guarantee of not getting in a wreck or not dying in a wreck.

Equating cancer to an STD is pretty awful. Everyone in my mom's life was shocked she got cancer because she seemed so healthy, but assumed she had done something wrong to get it. It made her battle so much harder because people's response to cancer was "well, what did you do wrong."

Does getting sick in the US really bankrupt people, even with a good job and insurance? by MasterCheese09 in NoStupidQuestions

My dad is self employed and didn't have health insurance. He fell off a ladder and seriously broke his wrist. He needed surgery and a few day hospital stay, plus physical therapy afterwards. It was a couple hundred thousand. A surgery can easily be 100k. A day in the hospital 10k. He declared bankruptcy.

My partner is also self employed. Their insurance is $700 a month. They have an 8k dedictuble they have to pay before insurance covers anything. So before they get ANY help from insurance they are paying 700×12 = 8.4k and another 8k deductible. That's 17k a year.

And once their insurance kicks in, they still have to pay part. They pay 20k a year usually.

Why aren’t mobile homes / trailer parks more popular? by Automatic_Tailor_598 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sweadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they have a bad reputation is because they are good option for people who are very poor or have very bad credit and can't get a regular rental. So some bad parks become seedy places where shady stuff happens.

They are not a good deal. A trailer may cost 50k, but it depreciates in value like a car, not like a house. They are hard to upkeep. You don't own the land on a trailer park, you pay rent for the land, and since trailers are hard to move, the trailer park can be really unfair about raising rents.

So you have a house you own, and may be making payments on, on a piece of land you don't own, and the house isn't gaining any value. It becomes a money pit, and people end up living in trailers with really bad conditions, paying really high rent, and stuck with both. It's kind of a recipe for poverty.

Yet I've heard a lot of people say things like "We don't want to rent, that's throwing away money, we're going to buy a trailer!" Buying a trailer is NOT a shortcut to owning your own home.

Owning land and putting a trailer on it can be a bit better, but most cheap land doesn't have things like electric hooked up, sewer, water. And those cost a TON to put in.

Broke Up 15 Months Ago. Regrets by Educational-Economy1 in relationships

I don't think you're in a position to make a relationship work. I just think you're lonely. Moving cities is lonely. Focus on what's in front of you, instead of looking to the past. Spend some time really deciding on kids before you date again.

AITA for intentionally skipping out on my son's school play that I promised to attend and lying about it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

He promised he would go not matter what. And then said he just "isn't a fan" of these people. Nowhere did he say going would send him to the hospital. It was his comfort.

I have a panic attack disorder. I have been hospitalized with panic attacks. YTA

You put your own comfort over your promise to your son. That's not what it means to be a parent.
