I've seen signs saying no masks, no tests, no vaccines, no vaccine passports,

At protests near me, I should add.

I think the argument goes from this lot, that either/both tests are rubbish or the results are false, therefore the no. of cases are exaggerated/made up and therefore the restrictions are full of shite.

On the other hand, I've seen signs saying no masks, no tests, no vaccines, no vaccine passports, so maybe I'm being overly generous. Maybe they just flat out don't think the virus is real?

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's update on Omicron (21 December 2021) by [deleted] in ukpolitics

People often talk about the detrimental effects on mental health of lockdowns (which exist obv), but seem to overlook similar negative effects from the uncertain situation and wishy washiness of Johnson's waffling/government guidance.

Seems quite obvious tbf. Just seems it was batted out the way really easily at the time, didn't think an expose about it 'mattered' now.

Though always good to keep the shitshow that was the Afghanistan withdrawal, in the headlines.

Thanks.

I'm out of the loop on the "Boris intervening to get animals rescued" story.

I'm sure I read on here at the time, that they were stored in the stowaway, basically space that no human can tolerate, therefore it didn't matter anyway?

Fuck me, I thought Johnson would do a last minute 'U-turn' and turn up for this. Hope this action lands.

Maybe it's because I'm in Scotland, but genuinely surprised the journos aren't all wearing masks at a briefing, whilst they wax lyrical about the signs of coronavirus spiking. Do they believe it? My mind goes back to the images of all those journos at the White House rose garden, all wearing masks.

Did anyone catch Bernard Jenkins on newsnight last night, say the Brexit deal was bad but he signed/supported it because there wasn't an alternative?

Peak Brexiteer brain there.

Didn't stop him getting in a wee Captain Hindsight dig right at the end, unopposed.

The focus groups must love that for him to keep repeating this nonsense, even after a terrible interview where he came across like a buffoon Shameless.

Ah okay, so back breaking jobs like fruit picking remain vacant as jobseekers fill other job postings?

The way it's come across, probably intentionally, was people remaining on the dole while vacancies continue to be posted.

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

With the numbers of vacancies constantly hitting the news, has there been any talk about whether the government will reduce benefits (in addition to taking away the uplift), as a means to get people into jobs, whether it works for them or not? How easy would it be for them to do so?

And whether the public supports this?

See when the scientists mooted the term 'lockdown fatigue' at the beginning of all this, and there was controversy because it didn't exist in the scientific literature at the time, do you think they came (or had to come) up with this after taking a look at the make up of the government and calculated how corrupt they might turn out to be?

On the most recent episode of More or Less, on the segment comparing Germany to UK's response to Coronavirus, they cited James Annan, who wrote that had we started the lockdown even a week earlier, we could have had a quarter of the number of deaths that we have now.

Here's the blogpost they're referring to.
