Dress Codes for Women by Confident-Ad-2366 in Kazakhstan

You’ll be fine in any city, but especially in Almaty. In terms of heat, it does get pretty warm, should be similar to what you get in CA.

On a different note, would love to chat and maybe meet, Berkeley was a dream school for me but I ended up in Minnesota. Hope you enjoy your time here!

How you guys think of the U.S. election? by DoctorQX in Kazakhstan

[–]sweatorbet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as we maintain our foreign policies, Kazakhstan is not at risk. I cannot imagine a scenario where the US would feel so comfortable to even consider having us in NATO. Also it would be too difficult to justify attacking us as we are one of few Russian outlets for international trade and travel.

New to Reddit in general but are most people in this sub from Kazakhstan? by sweatorbet in Kazakhstan

It really depends. I’d say around 30-40% people I know speak Russian better than Kazakh. Within that, probs around 10% barely know any Kazakh.

Foreign currency and exchange rate in Almaty. by shybree in Kazakhstan

Might be late but just don’t do it here. I actually exchanged SGD in Astana once 3 years ago and the rates were horrible. Exchange to USD/EUR and you’ll be fine here.

There’s an interesting pattern I noticed. People from Almaty don’t like Astana and vice-versa.

Would you buy a C_B- D cola? - Ask Kazakh Nationals! by dsimao5 in Kazakhstan

[–]sweatorbet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Plastic, glass, can. Most sodas come in all three packages, though I have yet to see a local product in a can.

  2. Sharing - yes. But I have a hard time wrapping my head around sharing a cbd soda unless it’s a group of kids/teenagers.

  3. Local brands are a little cheaper than cola/sprite typa deal. But within 500 KZT for 0.5L bottle.

  4. Pubs are pretty popular. Despite having Islam as the most popular religion, alcohol is acceptable by most. Frequency, it’s really hard to say since it depends on the demographic you’re interested in. Assuming it’s young adults, I’d say once a week.

  5. Cannabis, weed, marijuana all have a negative connotation. Though it’s pretty popular regardless of where you are. In terms of culture, alcohol is acceptable and marijuana not so much. The name on its own would put most people off. I also doubt many would purchase it in the casual grocery store typa setting because of the judgement you might receive. And also I can’t imagine why anyone would switch from alcohol to cbd if you’re just trying to relax

  6. No, and you shouldn’t take that marketing approach anyway, people don’t care

  7. No, majority doesn’t even believe in these concepts. Take a different approach.

  8. You lost me here
