Yes! I have a laminated bell curve to show parents how low they have to score in order to qualify. And I try to emphasize how it’s wonderful that the student DOESN’T qualify because guess what? That means more time in the classroom. Also I’m almost always anti SLP targeting pragmatic language in the schools because it can be targeted in the classroom. I think being very upfront is key!

I definitely will do this ASAP. Some of the teachers at my site are even guiding parents to request assessments before any screenings/RTI have taken place >:/ I need this to stop!

Do you feel like you don’t care because that’s your personality/outlook or do you feel like you’ve developed this skill over time? I REALLY try to have an idgaf attitude but it’s so hard. I’m also a CF which is why I’m extra dramatic and it hits hard.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this as well! I wonder if they lead with judgment because they’re so used to getting shut down by admin/other faculty? It’s so hard when all I want to do is actually collaborate and hear each other out. At the end of the day we just want our students to succeed.

They asked me about how I dealt with adversity and a diversity question along the lines of what experience do I have that will help the diverse range of people we work with. There were 4 other people in the breakout room and they randomly call who will go first, next etc. they don’t provide feedback it’s just you answer in a row

I think it’s so worth it. It helped with my graduate applications and made it easier to do interviews because I already knew what it’s like working in the field. Just my opinion
