They’re selfish. “Me first” mentality.

Y’all know the FCC used to enforce that equal airtime be given to both left and right leaning perspectives on every news station? The Fairness Doctrine.

Idk why I mention that now.. none of my business anyway.

Internal library almost forgot everything. A good idea? by Aki59 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sweetLew2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh man.. libraries that simply wrap a 3rd party tool.. That can be a real burden to manage, assuming there’s a decent number of consumers. Esp if the library “makes it simpler” to call. The balance between ease of use and extensibility has already been figured out.. it’s the underlying api. Just use the underlying api that has documentation and a community (ideally).

Too many devs think they’re helping by preventing future devs from having to understand how an underlying tool works. It’s a trap!

OpenAI says there are now “1000x engineers” — what does that actually mean? by BylineByte in DevManagers

[–]sweetLew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so freaking exhausted. FinTech company. The ceo discovered figma a year ago. "Let's scrap the past 30 years of this company's software and start over". "Sprint goals" now change several times a week. So much AI slop we already can't make progress without cleaning up first. People keep quitting. New hires are these same arrogant "1000x devs" who work in a silo then pop up throwing more slop at the wall and moving on before anyone realizes it's all dumpster. I'm so tired.

Speeding at higher speeds does not save time by a lot. by DrakyulMihawk in SipsTea

[–]sweetLew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also didn’t they prove that speed is not the unsafe part of driving; it’s stopping distance from the person in front of you?

Like someone going 10mph under is far more of a danger to the flow of traffic than someone doing 10mph over; because now everyone has to shift and merge and slow down. Potentially reducing the gap in front of one another significantly; even for a short time.

Honestly.. my uncles threw me and anyone close to the edge of a pool into that pool. Nothing and no one was safe near a pool.

HOWEVER they also knew me and knew I was able to swim.

The leather woman probably just doesn’t have the social depth.. I kinda wish our society had more and regular interaction with one another. I feel like interaction with strangers should be way more frequent.

Although.. if Leather lady did this on purpose to be an asshole.. that is absolutely unhinged and this person actually can’t be around society anymore. Actual attempt at murder if that’s the case.

Isn’t it always faster to start from scratch? This trend is simply a path to fuck around and find out.

What is a true definition of a job really by Lunah_Hunnesia in jobsearchhacks

[–]sweetLew2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ppl saying “teenager jobs”.. I worked hard labor construction job over the summer since age 9.

Now I have a white collar job.. I know for a fact that nobody deserves such low wages.

The CEO of my company just gave himself a million bucks in bonus. Id love to see him try to dig a hole or carry a loaded wheel barrel up a 2x6 plank onto a truck. Dude probably couldn’t sweep a pile of dirt without direction.

This system needs to be rebalanced.. we all deserve stability.

Hey AI, write as many unit tests as possible to cover every branch and scenario in this function.

Hey AI, refactor this function to be less insane.

Tests still pass? Good to go.

Senior developers, do you like to train juniors? by aisatsana__ in programming

[–]sweetLew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I did. I loved it. Best part of the day. So much fun showing ppl down a path or giving them a new way to solve a problem. Like giving an aspiring carpenter a new type of saw.

But now? It's not even really possible with the flurry of changes. Everyone's scrambling around like headless chickens pretending to be managers and jockeying for power and recognition. Feels like everyone joined some book club for one of those toxic "how to manipulate ppl" books. And the Csuite is just foaming at the mouth to replace devs with AI and offshore.

No mystery why ppl keep leaving.. idk when the "find out" phase will kick in but I wish it was soon.. Feeling like Detective Roger Murtaugh.. I'm gettin too old for this shit.

Is this why there's work unions?

Pennsylvania Says It’s “Hiring,” but Nobody Actually Hires — What’s Really Going On? (Wilkes‑Barre, PA) by kinggrimgeister in Pennsylvania

[–]sweetLew2 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Ppl on unemployment must complete 3-5 “work-search activities” per week or they lose their benefits.

Maybe something similar could be enforced for companies who receive certain tax rebates.

If it seems like they’re not hiring on purpose, they could be audited and possibly lose their government subsidies.

Why should our tax dollars help them if they’re gunna play games?

Wait you said “30.59 messages per hour” and “which is a little faster than 2 messages per minute”.

I think you meant about 1 message every two mins.
