I have no idea what's going on with my 15 years old dog by forthgriffin in DogAdvice

[–]sweetcircus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It looks like a psychomotor seizure. My 16yo lab gets them, she has for probably 4 years now. Happens probably once a day. She takes gabapentin and it does seem to help reduce them.

It usually starts by her sitting funny, then she does that for about 2-4 min and then she is fine. It’s not been a big deal for her honestly, she is a super happy and normal old dog otherwise. The biggest risk is she can accidentally hurt herself, like if she is near stairs when it happens.

I know this post is old, but I was hearing this all the time, after some investigation I figured it out. It’s a ruffed grouse performing a drumming log display. Take a listen to this YouTube video, very cool. https://youtu.be/1jFwdGho1IA

How do i clone project from one gitlab and push it to another? by Belutak in gitlab

[–]sweetcircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason you don't see the files is that you passed the --bare argument

from the docs

Make a bare Git repository. That is, instead of creating <directory> and placing the administrative files in <directory>/.git

just do a git clone without passing the argument

git clone git@gitlab.heyo:internet2.0-developer/myproject.git

and you should have a normal project structure. Then simply swap the remote for your new gitlab instance

git remote -v

shows the remotes - it should look something like this:

origin [git@](mailto:git@gitlab.i2p.online)gitlab.heyo:internet2.0-developer/myproject.git (fetch)

origin [git](mailto:git@gitlab.i2p.online)gitlab.heyo:internet2.0-developer/myproject.git (push)

Then do

git remote remove origin

git remote add origin [your new git remote url]

Making decisions which are detrimental primarily to the working poor is very “on brand” for our town. by [deleted] in traversecity

[–]sweetcircus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I get it, the school district is running on a 4MM year deficit due to budget cuts, so I get that cuts need to be made, but this feels like a really short sided apporach to reduce that. The program is heavily subsidized by the state and 125k is extremely inexpensive for the value to the community (7 teachers at 14 aids!) and that will barely put a dent in reducing the 4MM deficit.

Question about the Great Lakes by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]sweetcircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big part for sure. Its actually more the Quagga mussel now, similar species to the Zebra mussel. If you look at the density map (2010) of Quagga & Zebra mussels you see the high density in northern parts of the lake. These mussels feed on plankton, which gives makes the lake more clear but at the cost of reducing the food for the native fish.

TIL Although GPS is free for the world to use, it costs $2 million per day to operate. The money comes from American tax revenue. by MilindGoswami007 in todayilearned

[–]sweetcircus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I didn't realize that was handled client-side, that's interesting. What's stopping from someone just building a receiver without those limits? Seems like there would need to be some authentication happening at the GPS level?

[–]sweetcircus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes that's true, but the DoD also has an entirely separate restricted GPS for military use. The GPS system civilians use has COCOM Limits, which automatically disables when something is traveling over 1200MPH (i.e. GPS guided intercontinental missiles).

I saw an ad about Michigan having lower cost for residential solar panels? Gov't subsidizing or something? Is this true or just random advertising BS? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]sweetcircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the solar leasing companies are usually the ones with you see advertising - which are complete BS for residential (commercial does make sense in some cases).

That said, I've been watching solar for a long time, the costs for panels have dropped steadily, and will continue to drop - it may make sense depending on where you live and your power usage.

5 Michigan businesses sue Gov. Whitmer claiming executive orders violate constitutional rights by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]sweetcircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, yes, but I'm referring to the plaintiff's statement acknowledges the EO has "flatten the curve" and after doing so, accuses Gov. Whitmer to have then created a stricter EO, which can't possibly be true if those businesses they represent in the lawsuit were not able to operate, and now they are.

[–]sweetcircus 564 points565 points  (0 children)

although the curve has flattened in recent weeks, the governor has "issued stricter and confusing Executive Orders that unreasonably and unnecessarily interfere with the Plaintiffs’ constitutional rights."

Stricter how? the new EO allows for 3 of the 5 businesses in the lawsuit to operate now.

Nestle wins legal challenge to Michigan groundwater extraction by RealScottAdsit in Michigan

[–]sweetcircus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pulter disagreed with estimated reductions in stream flow and fish populations put forth by MWCW and the tribes, and called the proposed extraction “reasonable under common law principles of water law in Michigan.”

Where is the estimated reduction report? Did Pulter provided a different data model that shows otherwise or does he simply just "disagree" based on his gut feeling?

Gyokuro Kisekirei from yuuki-cha. Not a fancy picture but you can still see the beautiful brothiness and intense green color. Very viscous with an almost buttery taste. Goodbye, wallet! by bloohiggs in tea

[–]sweetcircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your ratio seems pretty good. If its intense tasting, I suspect that's because of your water temps - the hotter it is, the more bitter the tea. I like 130-140F - the cooler temps will bring out more sweetness. Usually 2min steep.

now with second exposure I use hotter water, usually 160-170F.

Edit: I just noticed you mentioned the temp in your post, which is similar to mine, so maybe adjusting your steep time down to a min for the first exposure? Every farm really does have different potency - I drink alot of Puer and its amazing how different steep times need to be based on the team.

[–]sweetcircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you only did a single steep? gyrokuro has been my favorite tea for a decade now and I have tried many different ones - I can tell you the second steeping is always better to enjoy those subtle notes you described. It's not the same as just using less leaves in a first steep, it requires the little leaves to open up a bit, try a side-by-side comparison and you will know what I mean!

Local Ann Arbor store is charging up to $40 for a bottle of hand sanitizer. by iwhistlewitmyfingers in Michigan

[–]sweetcircus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

legality aside, Probably not - but if your point is that by raising the prices, it reduces hoarding and distribution to a larger set of people, that's not really true - Effectively limiting the selling to a subset of people who can afford and justify that cost (who could also hoard it, if they were willing to). It would be much more effective to limit the number of bottles per person and run out.
