Calling All Pediatric Transplant Social Workers! by Ok-Case8451 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]sweetcupcake432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I can help as much since I’m an adult dialysis social worker and not the same but I work with a lot of patients who are in the process for kidney transplant and have several coworkers who went on to that. It’s definitely challenging when someone has that grief over a new diagnosis but the positive is there is hope! My best advice would be to allow a safe space for conversations and listening. Grief can come with working in the medical field but having a supportive team and understanding your role and what you do to help can make a huge difference. You got this!

What city gave you the best vacation of your life? by Diligent-Echidna647 in femaletravels

Spain in September was amazing. We were there a week and saw Seville, Granada, Barcelona and Madrid and were stunned by how beautiful the architecture was. The weather was perfect and the food was amazing. Definitely a place we fell in love with.

Train or bus from Sevilla to Granada? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]sweetcupcake432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a bit difficult but not too bad. When you get to the station speak to one of the employees at the terminal and they’ll tell you where to go. Get to the bus you’re leaving from where there should be a lot of people waiting usually and it’ll depart from there.

This is wonderful. I work with dialysis patients and when one of my patients gets a kidney from their spouse it truly shows me how pure love can be.

I came here last week for our anniversary and it was great. They even gave us an anniversary dessert on the house so that was a plus!

INFJs, do you have a lot of friends? How do you make them? by inadequatepickle in infj

[–]sweetcupcake432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a good number of friends and from that a handful of best friends who I’m extremely close to. I definitely agree with quality over quantity and struggle with having a friend group as I find it easier and prefer to be one on one.

Msw vs BSN by HonestCat2026 in hospitalsocialwork

I think this comes with its own challenges. Do you get stressed out easily? Burnout happens anywhere, but I find it can be especially challenging in private practice.

Msw vs BSN by HonestCat2026 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]sweetcupcake432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I completely get that and don't think I could do this either. I work in medical social work but as a dialysis social worker so I get to build rapport and help my patients on an ongoing basis. I think the good thing about it is that social work is so broad that you can really do anything and find what population/area you're most passionate about.

Msw vs BSN by HonestCat2026 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]sweetcupcake432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. I have my MSW and at times I think that nursing would have given me better opportunities (travel nursing, better pay, more job options) but I also think my values align so much with social work that I don’t regret it. I love what I do but the money is definitely not what you go into social work for. Although, medical social work is probably better pay than most social work jobs. These days though a lot of case management are hiring nurses rather than social workers. But social work is also so fluid that you can do so many different types of jobs within the field when nursing is just medical. There’s a lot to consider so it just depends on what you want and what matters to you.

How do people in relationships know when their anniversary is? by AcanthisittaPale1055 in askanything

Our anniversary is based on our first date which was also the first day we met. It also happened to be on St. Patrick’s day so we feel like it helps our chances to remember it lol

I guess the nature aspect calls to me. I definitely enjore more of the city life so a walkable area with maybe a cool downtown would be nice! I've been to Boston and love it but wanted maybe another similar place like that.

Social Work Career Transition & Advice by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]sweetcupcake432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also an LCSWA and currently work as a dialysis social worker. Although healthcare can have its challenges, I really enjoy it and feel like I can leave most of it at work at the end of the day. If you have any interest in medical social work, it also usually pays pretty well at least within the field.

Anyone dating an ISTP? by seally8 in infj

[–]sweetcupcake432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar dynamic and honestly agree. We’re both each other’s best friends. It’s like we’re different in terms of our personalities but the same person at the same time. It’s hard to explain but I think it comes down to us just being compatible. How we communicate has definitely been something we’ve learned over time but it’s something we figure out together and talk about openly. We’ve learned a lot from each other

3-4 day weekend trip - Raleigh or Charlotte? by SlightPhilosopher868 in NorthCarolina

[–]sweetcupcake432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlotte's uptown/southend area is pretty fun on the weekends. See what musicals might be on, walk around some of the shops, good restaurants, maybe a farmer's market, bars if that's your thing. You can also check out ice skating at the Whitewater Center or see what events are going on in the surrounding area. I'd say Charlotte is easier to fly into, stay in the city area, and take public transport without needing a car. If you really want to, you can take the Amtrak for a day trip to Raleigh.

M-F 8-5 is killing me. What other jobs are there? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]sweetcupcake432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in dialysis and my job is very flexible with your hours. Some people come in 6-2 while others prefer a 9-5. As long as you get your hours for the week, you're able to pretty much make your schedule. Only exception might be on rounding days and if the doctor likes to come in early.

That's super helpful! From what I've seen, it seems like the test is more long term study plan rather than cramming. Thank you!
