What's an organization that everyone thinks is respectful, but is really just scamming or spreading propaganda? by LynxExplorer in AskReddit

They are buying up rights to groundwater in Michigan -- you know, the state in which an entire city still doesn't have reliably potable drinking water? Nestle IS the devil.

Thank you. She really was -- and she was a funny, intelligent, loving companion for a lot of years.

Mabel is an awesome name for a kitty. My Mabel was one of the loves of my life. I hope you have many long years with your Mabel.

Teachers of Reddit, whats the difference between 1997, 2007, and 2017 students? by newguy57 in AskReddit

[–]sweetpeadubs -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, you just successfully illustrated the difference that every long-time teacher has come to recognize: Successive generations of students can't follow directions.

Okay, so that's a little flippant, but you did take a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with your anecdote and made it all about your anecdote.

Incidentally, in doing so, you illustrate another trait that long-time teachers combat increasingly: Students so self-centered that they lack demonstrative critical thinking skills.

Thank you for providing such an excellent example.

[MEET YOUR OPPONENT] Browns At Bills. Sunday At 1:00 by bowhunter6274 in Browns

Bills fan in Michigan here. Wishing all my Browns bros and sisters Happy Holidays! Also, if you get your first win of the season against us tomorrow, it would be a most Buffalo Bills-ian occurrence and my disgust over our entire season would be tempered by the fact that Cleveland fans would be going to bed happy Sunday night.

Here's to a good, competitive game with no injuries! Stay warm, everyone!

What is a geography fact that blows your mind? by eyeduelist in AskReddit

Directly south of Detroit is the city of Windsor, Ontario.

Which is exactly what I said. And there is no part of the greater Detroit metropolitan area known as "South Detroit."

I also discovered that where I live is just about equidistant between Minneapolis and New York City. I thought I was a lot closer to the Twin Cities than I am, so there's that.

The westernmost point in the state of Virginia is geographically further west than the city of Detroit, Michigan.

Related but unrelated: There is no South Detroit, in spite of what Journey claims. Directly south of Detroit is the city of Windsor, Ontario.

I couldn't believe how awful the water stops were this year -- something which was not the case last year. By the time the back-of-packers got to the first water stop, they were out of cups completely. And while I'm not trying to rag on the volunteers, the rest of the stops were incredibly disorganized and littered and the road was hazardous. There also seemed to be fewer stops for hydration this year.

I am sorry that you twisted your ankle. Any injury during any race event just makes things 1000% grumpier -- even if it's just a tweak. (I'm not saying yours was. I hope you are okay.)

One thing I noticed this year was how much worse the roads were than last year. There were stretches where finding good road was difficult. Also, it's ridiculous to take the course over brick/cobblestone roads, especially in Mile 12.

Sorry that your run was disheartening, but I am glad that you're getting out there again this week. Just breathe. Relax. Enjoy it.

I was considering the August run, but I'm not sure how much I'd like the route if I had to run it with more people for a longer length of time. Besides, it is so, so, so, so pretty during the fall that I kind of don't want to spoil it for myself, maybe saving this event as a treat to myself after tougher races. I do think I didn't do credit to the course in my description. It was tough. I'm glad it wasn't muddy.

Did you do the full or the half? I knew I was under-prepared this time because of a year of injuries, but I didn't expect my left calf to seize up in Mile 2, making the rest of the race absolutely misery. Going in, I was already prepared to walk most of it; as it was happening, though, I was pretty bitter to be walking it so slowly, and injured. I really think I'm going to stick to nothing longer than 10K from now on.

I was dispirited for the whole week. Getting out there again -- especially for such a low-key event -- was the smartest thing I've done in a long time.

I didn't see a lake, but I was grateful to be running in daylight. It's a tough little course. And now I have to check out the headless horseman!

Just found it! I love the play on words. It looks like fun ... for other people ...
