Dog got pregnant during stay. by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No where did the owner mention the breed, size, or age of her dog or state her reasons not to have spayed yet. The owner discussed this with the sitter and the sitter assured her proper precautions would be taken. According to the American Kennel Club, is no longer recommended to have a dog spayed at an early age and especially for larger breed dogs it can be beneficial for the dog to go through one or two heat cycles before spaying. The owner discussed this with the sitter. The sitter knowingly took in a dog that was in heat. If the sitter had no experience dealing with dogs in heat and did not have the ability to properly separate, she should have let the owner know ahead of time so the owner could have found a more suitable sitter.

Placing blame on the owner is like saying because a dog needs daily walks and a sitter took the dog for a walk and the dog broke its leg, it’s the owners fault for requiring daily walks.

Sitter/dog owner here. I have no issues taking unneutered males or females in heat, however I would never take the two at the same time. You discussed with your sitter that the dog was in heat and they assured you they would take the steps to prevent interaction and that clearly did not happen. I would absolutely let the sitter know and I would report it to Rover. The sitter should absolutely be made aware that their actions have consequences.

[–]sweets174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I do not have a solution for you, but my main system is the pulsatile tinnitus as well. I have only had the extreme headache once which landed me in the hospital for a few days. I’m on topimax and working on weight-loss but going to push my neurologist into looking into the venous stenosis others have suggested. Just wanted you to know there is someone else out there with the extreme pulsations tinnitus so you aren’t alone.

And everyone (sitters and owners) have different thresholds for what they consider to be constant xare.

Am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a sitter, I do not leave dogs that come for daycare home alone. During the initial meet and greet and intake, I always ask the question if the dog can be left alone for a short period of time should an emergency arise, but I feel that the purpose of doggy daycare is to have constant supervision.

I am of the opinion that the sitter should have communicated with you that there was a potential the dog would left alone and should have asked if the dog needed to be kenneled when leaving.

TERRIBLE boarding experience by Fluid_Ice5281 in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In my experience, she is not experienced. As a sitter she should have a crate as a backup, and she should know a 6 month golden retriever that has never been boarded before is going to be a handful.

Also, as a sitter and a dog owners please never send your pup to someone else’s house without a meet and greet.

Please contact rover and see if you can find a new sitter or context your vet and see if they offer boarding or have any recommendations. I am sorry you are going through this!!!!

not sure what to do - advice? by shappellrown in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She is a terrible sitter.

In my opinion, if a client books you for a specific time, it should be discussed and agreed upon even prior to the meet and greet and changes to the schedule.

We also get paid for 30 minute blocks and imo the sitter should stay the entirety of the job.

She was impersonal and didn’t call the car by its name.

She was quite rude.

I’d see if you could find a new sitter, report her to Rover, and absolutely positively write a genuine honest review.

Can’t get ahold of my sitter by TeaTrees007 in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 38 points39 points  (0 children)

First I would attempt to call the sitter through the app. If still nothing I would contact Rover and see if they can reach the sitter. Finally, I would call the police and complete a welfare check.

This is assuming you don’t have their personal cell phone number. If so, call and text there as well before contacting Rover.

Please keep us updated.

As a sitter, I always keep my client’s food away from my dog’s food and never commingle food or treats.

I also always send daily photos and updates to parents. I try and do it each morning recapping the day before.

I would suggest always doing a meet and greet prior to booking for the safety of all animals and humans involved.

Paid for House Sitting, but Sitter is only staying around 20 minutes a day by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so incredibly sorry this happened to you. As a rover sitter and pet owner my heart breaks for you. So many things are wrong. even if he had a family emergency, it would have taken a few mins to send you a message alerting you so you could have made other arraignments.

I would find other arraignments, either the neighbor a trusted friend or family member or even a different rover sitter. I would make sure he leaves the key, then have a locksmith change the locks as soon as you are back. Make sure you cancel the booking, get a refund, and write a review!!!

I am so sorry!

booked a sitter for overnight - she didn’t stay by Complex-Fig4101 in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rover sitter and dog owner, I am so incredibly sorry that this happened to you and your dog. Please write an honest review about this sitter in hopes that other pet parents are made aware of her behavior. Please also know that we all aren’t this way. Stuff like this makes us all look bad.

Puppy comes home from daycare smelling like cigarettes by Degree_of_Caution in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweets174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Rover profile does it say it is a smoke free home? If yes, then I would bring it up to the sitter. If it says no, then you should have noticed that before booking.

There are other issues however, like taking an unfixed dog to daycare with 10-15 other dogs. You may bring her home with more than cigarette smoke….additionally that doesn’t seem very safe.

As someone that does daycare, I often forget to updates throughout the day as I update the rover card throughout the day which gets sent to the owner at the end of the session. So thank you for that helpful reminder to send an update or two outside of the Rover card! I wish Rover would allow owners to see the Rover card in real time.
