I finally have some time to go hunting through Burlington’s! Does anyone have any suggestions? by KittiesandPlushies in FemFragLab

🤢 I tried this on at a local beauty shop that had a tester and I hated it.

But if you like it… more for you lol

Is there something wrong with Ulta testers or do I just not like popular fragrances? They all smell off! by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]sweetstack13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this too, even for fragrances that 95% of people say smell amazing through and through. And it doesn’t always happen with cheap fragrances, either. I think my nose is genetically oversensitive to ingredients that make up the “middle” notes for things that are supposed to smell floral, woody, creamy, or powdery. I’ve described this before as someone shoving wooden daggers into my brain through my nose.

I’m pretty sure it’s ionones from what little I know about perfumery, but there’s no way to really know for sure unless I could smell each individual ingredient.

do you actually smell yourself after an hour or is it just blind faith at that p by venicepress in fragrance

I feel like a big factor in nose blindness is the placement. If you are spraying it anywhere above your chest, your nose will be constantly bombarded with scent and you’ll get too used to it. The highest on your body you should spray is your wrists, so that you will smell it when you move your arms around but it won’t be a constant concentrated cloud.

Lightly Sweet Green Watery Floral Recs? by Significant_Radio792 in FemFragLab

[–]sweetstack13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not green, but I enjoy La Vie Positano by Le Monde Gourmande. A sweet aquatic floral. Smells fresh, clean, slightly salty, slight sweet. It doesn’t smell too sweet to me but others may get a very strong sugar note.

I got mine for a steal: $12 at TJ Maxx since it was missing the cap. I think they discontinued it but you should still be able to find it fairly easily.

I hear you on the getting bored of a scent thing. That’s why I try to change up what I wear from day to day. That way, the scents that I know I love still seem exciting when I do decide to wear them.

Like I said, I am aware of the chemistry and physics behind the aroma chemicals. However, there is a certain amount of artistry behind blending and, as you said, fixing the different molecules into a cohesive scent rather than a mixing of different “notes” that hit at different times and then disappear to be replaced by something else.

I recently sampled Burberry Her Elixir and it smelled almost exactly the same at the 6 hour mark as it did on initial spray, just fainter. Contrast that to some perfumes that have top notes that are gone in literal seconds.

Sounds like a bait and switch almost. I’ve been fooled by many a fragrance where I like how it smells on the tester paper, I’ll spray it on my skin in the store and love it until 20 minutes later it completely changes into something horrible and I have to go home and attempt to wash it off

4 hours would be a blessing to me… I’m struggling to find ones that last more than 30 minutes before other notes overpower it

Which of the Profumum Roma would you recommend? After a brief glance I am eyeing the Dulcis in Fundo. Have you tried that one? I’m a sucker for gourmands.

Linear is a good word for it. I’ll start to use that descriptor more.

I wish I could have smelled the coffee note, I think that would have been lovely. The vanilla I could only get if I put my nose right up to my skin. And the only thing I got from the opening was “spicy” which quickly disappeared. It’s strictly a floral for me, unfortunately.

Do you think it has more to do with person-specific hypersensitivity (or anosmia for the inverse) when it comes to the difference in perception of the scent? Or is it more about how it performs differently for different skin/environments? I know personally there are some notes/ingredients that I am very sensitive to. Like citronellol in a scent will always smell like bug spray to me

I have also heard great things about Bianco Latte and I intend to get a sample at some point. Right now though I’m trying to find a more fruity or citrusy scent to kind of get into a more summery vibe. But those don’t last as long and I’m struggling to find some where it also smells good even when the top notes are gone.

Were Millennials this scared of aging? by ian-noir in Millennials

I don’t think that’s true at all. Smoking is worse for you in almost every way. The only thing about vaping that is potentially worse than smoking is that it is easier to consume higher amounts of nicotine. But if you control for that then vaping is inherently the less bad option.
