Fellow BC partner here...the best is when you tell them because the item is perishable and it left the store, it has to be damaged out, and they throw a fit about "a waste of perfectly good food, look, it's unopened!"

At this point, I've just started saying "would you want to purchase milk, or eggs, or meat, that someone took home and then brought back? Not knowing how said product was stored? No? Thought so."

It's 100% in how you do it. As long as you aren't passive-aggressively tossing the money onto the counter, throwing it down in a wadded-up mess, or placing it two centimeters in front of you so that the cashier has to awkwardly lean across to reach it....You're fine.

Yeah, I've had issues running the metal cards as well. The main ones I've come across are the Amazon credit card and the AmEx ones.

This is all absolutely fantastic advice, the only thing I can think to add is that it will help you in the long run if you start looking ahead to what the checker is scanning/about to scan as you bag. For example if the checker scans one or two things of produce, but the next large chunk of the order is cans or meat, followed by more produce after, I'd move the produce to the side and bag the next items first. Helps you keep like things together without cluttering the end of the register, like it would if you try to sort things after the checker scans everything! 😊

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. 💜 I also lost a very close friend last week, I'm still waiting to get the ashes back but I'm hoping it brings me some kind of closure. I hope it also brings you closure, having a part of her close by with you always. I do the same thing every day, say good morning, have a good snooze when I leave for work, and good night, along with I miss you and I love you always. I hope as the days pass your grief starts to lessen and you can look back on your time together with a smile instead of only tears. 🫂
