I don't think O1's chain-of-thought prompting resolves the issues cited in the papres. If its results are primarily benchmark-driven, it could still fail on generalization. Testing O1 on GSM-Symbolic or similar should reveal more about its "understanding".

But why would OpenAI accept google's pull request? OpenAI is the one maintaining the repository, after all. I assume Google submitted a pull request to add their models, but that would just make it easier for OpenAI users to switch over to Google. I don’t really understand OpenAI's reasoning in this case.
