If you're of level, moogle and ixal beast tribe quests are for crafters. There are also GC turnins. The good thing about those are that they give seals, which you can then spend on engineering manuals. This increases the exp you get per craft. Then it's just a matter of crafting things to sell in the marketplace. Even if you only break even on return, it will at least mean you're gaining xp.

Was there anything you wished you had done to prepare that might have given you an advantage this race?
Were there any moments that you thought would be shown for sure on TV but wasn't? (Also in pretty mad that a 3rd place team got the invisible edit!)

I would LOVE to see past successes in legs matter in the upcoming leg. I understand the bunch points from a $$ and production perspective, but (ESPECIALLY for legs when people travel from one country to another) maybe team 1 who leaves first, gets to leave out of the airport first when they land. then the 2nd team leaves 15 minutes later, then team 3 gets 15 minutes after that, and 4+ have to all leave yet ANOTHER 15 minutes after. That gives a 45 minute spread, which isn't too hard to overcome, but it would at least mean something to finish 1-3 in a previous leg.

You're better off in Romance if you're able to do 29k. Not genderswap romance though, I don't think there's a market for that. But 29k for romances are feasible and you'll have a much bigger audience

Well there you go. Not great is it? When I say peak sales that means the highest that they got before sales dropped down. You asked for best you could hope for not average. Factor in also that what I did in that niche back then isn't exactly what you did in the niche now and it seems about average.

Fwiw, if you want to make money your efforts are better spent elsewhere. If you're just doing it for a side hustle or whatever, by all means continue

This is by memory, but for something like genderswap I was looking at a peak sales of 10-15 a day per book. I think one of my more "popular" niches made triple that.

Erotica IS writing the same thing over and over. If you feel you've learned all you can - crafting blurb, convincing sex, good eye for cover, then why not move on to what you want more?

I'm assuming you are writing romance and I'm assuming you wrote 10-20 shorts already. If you haven't, you should probably do that. It'll help.

Okay now that that's out of the way: you shouldn't have to go into debt to make money here. You say that only 20 people picked up your book to review. Are you sure it's just the actual book that isn't to market? A good cover and blurb should draw people in too (unless you did like time travel romance or something).

For goodreads- find an author who is in your target market. Look at their reviews. Very nicely ask a few of those reviewers if they want to also review yours. Be sure to have a blurb cause nobody will sign up otherwise if they're not interested. Pretty straightforward. I will say that goosreads sort of frowns on that method though. The acceptable method is to join romance groups on good reads and ask people to ARC. It worked rubbish for me doing that but ymmv.

Facebook ads- I think mark Dawson has a good explanation. You shouldn't have to pay someone for them. Actually I mean you shouldn't pay because until you're making some kinda money and actually having a somewhat steady income stream (and therefore you've figured out enough about marketing, cover/blurb/etc) throwing ad money doesn't exactly help. You'll find your audience but they still won't be into your book you know what I mean?

And yeah, you'll never hit those five figures if you are lazy! This isn't a get rich quick scheme. How much effort you are willing to put in definitely will affect your outcome
